Hi all,

I am currently looking for sites for the Hovercraft World Champs that we want to hold here in the UK in 2010.

I have quite a good list at the moment but am now struggling.

What we need is:
Inland fresh water lake. (We race a Rother Valley Country Park for example, needs to be bigger though)
Camp site with facilities.
Stately home would be good (we race at Claydon House but it's not an ideal site)
Not in built up areas for the obvious noise related problems.
A good amount of land around the lake for the land sections of the course.

Anyone got any ideas of places near to them??

Thanks in advance.

Erm graffham water near huntingdon is fairly big, dont know about camping facilities though. Also along that sort of idea, try kielder or rutland water, hope this helps! Or, try the national water sport centre at holme pierpoint in nottingham!!

Yep got all of them on my list thanks. Holme Pierpoint is a no go. We have been there in the past but the management changed so did the warm welcome, but we are trying again.

Might be a long shot, but in arlesey bedfordshire, there is a long disused flooded quarry that is used by a local sailing club, has padlocked entry gates and lots of spare land around it(farm fields etc). Dont know if the local sailing club would be receptive to you request, but you could give it a try!

There are bound to be some good sites around Somerset I'm sure. Why don't you have a look online for bits and pieces around here, as I'm not too sure what you want from your initial post.

How about Cheddar Reservoir? They do sailing etc on there and a dragon boat race each year, so why not hovercrafts? It has land etc around it, campsites nearby and is one of the most picturesque places around.

Hovercraft racing down through Cheddar Gorge would be a winner! If you're interested e-mail me or give me your e-mail here, I can put you in touch with the director. wink

We use to race at Carnforth. I think they built up the edges of the lake where we used to go from water to land so we couldn't get on the land anymore.

Good idea! I'll be able to watch the practice in my lunch break.

You can all camp at my place. But no scrumping! biggrin

Not sure how big the lake is in comparison to others but I certainly wouldn't want to swim it.
