Quit smoking does it become more easy?
Discussion
For one week I have no cigarette. It make me feel in very bad mood for most of time and I have been on edge very much. How long before it is more easy and not think about it so much?.Also for any one else who also has quit did any thing help for you to quit?.I have gone from maybe 10 cigarette per day to 0 because when I try to quit before I try to start with smoke less and it did not work.
It gets easier, trust me. I was totally on edge for about 3-4 weeks and then the feeling went away adn i'm OK now. Stick with it and you'll beat it.
I had three ciggies during the month after I gave up. Smoked the first one totally but didn't enjoy it. Second was a couple of drags then put it out. Third was so disgusting it went straight into the ashtray after one drag.
I'm not saying i'll never smoke again but at the moment i'm off them.

I quit as of one week ago... I was on around 10 a day. I can definately say that now, the physical addiction is over, ie. the addictive substance is out of my body. It's just the psychological, habitual behavior, ie. something to do after meals, and with my hands that irritates me slightly.
It is, however a lot easier to deal with now than it was 3 days ago. Lots of support from my wife has helped made this one bearable. Watch this space..

I've been a non-smoker for almost 7 years to the day. Patches helped for the 1st 3 months. Used to smoke a pack a day and often a bit more at weekends. I still get an occasional longing for a smoke whilst out for an evening, but never strong enough to actually give in. If I could now only turn my willpower to reducing my middle-age spread....

One very heavy Friday night = 2 days of feeling like death were you cannot stomach one, and after that, the craving goes until the next time you have a beer. Thats how I manage it ... but I fail when I have a beer

I have given up several times the longest period a couple of years ago for one and a half years. I made myself start again, stupid i know.
Now i am off the things for good after a particularly scary bronchitis infection recently that everyone seemed to catch. I feel it after food and graft but i wont give in.
Stick at it. Enjoy the gasp! Don't let it or them (the baccy companies) beat you. It saves you money and your health obviously. They are laughing at your addiction.
Don't be one who looks back in a few years with absolute regret while hooked up to a respirator fighting for life when you can stop it NOW... just by quitting. If you have kids you owe it to them to stay alive as long as you can to watch over them.
Don't give up! Good luck.

When I finally quit, 8 years ago, I was on nearly 60 red Marlboro a day but I never once felt the withdrawal symptoms most people do. Not sure why. Makes me think how stupid I was not to stop earlier. Once I'd decided to stop, I just did and that was it.
My friends have all tried with varying successes and they all seem to suffer. Even my Grandad, who quit his 40 Woodbines-a-day habit some 30 years ago, misses them still despite not having touched a single one in all that time.
I guess in their cases, the secret is to ask yourself who controls you... you or the cigs. Everyone else I know that has quit and remained quit, all credit their continued success to simple strength of will.

I gave up fairly easily........halfway through my second cigarette. I could not understand why anybody with half a brain cell would want to stuff that smelly stinky nauseating smoke down their lungs.
My cool buddies told me "oh, you'll get used to it".
Why the fook would you want to get used to THAT disgusting habit????
Nadyenka, it makes you smell like an ash tray, makes your hair smell like a doormat, makes your mouth taste like a dog poo, and destroys your health. That is one reason to stay off the bloody things girl.
Buy this book. Utterly fantastic.
I gave up nearly 5 years ago and thought I would never stop until I found this.

I used nicorette gum. Worked for me, stopped 10 years+. Every day was just bit easier than the day before. Keep it up. It's worth it. Edited by TVR Andy on Friday 24th October 21:28
I gave up 9 years ago.
I found that it worked in 2's: 1st 2 days very difficult then felt like a big achievement at 2 weeks and then again at 2 months- if you crack 2 months you can be confident that you don't need to go back.
As others have said, it's more difficult to break the habit rather than the actual addiction itself. You just need to find something to fill the gap.
