Worst "the recession isn't affecting me and I can still afford to have someone else clean my shoes for me" thread today....

There used to be one at the base of the escalators going to McDonalds, not sure if he is still there though.

I appreciate it provides employment and all but does anybody elsethink they would feel ashamed when you see people cleaning your shoes?

No worse than having a pole clean your car while you sit in it imo.

They are providing a service and they are happy to do it and I'm happy to pay for it...whats the problem? That's capitalism at work!!

Back in the 1960's Blue Peter featured a shoe-shine man, and on our next trip to London my mother took me along to have my shoes done by the same man - purely because it was already seen that these guys were a dying breed. I remember that my shoes were pretty clean already but it was a nice thing to say you'd done smile

He did mine a few weeks ago as well. Made a damn good job of them as well. Years ago when I worked in the city they used to come round the desks of the dealers, never seen them since.

There's a show shine place in City airport.

They refused to polish my new rock boots. Lazy feckers.

The best shoe shine I've had was at Ted Baker and Friends on Cheapside. The guy worked wonders on my shoes - I got it for free as I spent over £300 in the shop but he normally charges £4. We have a guy that comes round the office but his work is ste compared to the guy at TB.
