Hi all, posting under a temp account for this...

looks like I may lose my job tomorrow morning. I'll need an employment lawyer, preferably based in NW London or Docklands.

Any recommendations?

Likely to be redundancy, I got a pay rise in September with a decent appraisal.

Sorry to hear about your predicament but my evil sense of humour is saying to me "the appraisal was a test, if you'd turned down the pay rise citing difficult economic conditions maybe they would have kept you" smile

Seriously though...all the best!

Hehe, thanks smile The pay rise was actually part of a deferred pay increase agreement.

What industry are you in?

If they only entered in "consultation" with you today let them make you redundant tomorrow, as this is no way near enought time to come to this descision unless you are the only person being made redundant.

Try contacting Rich Burley on here.

No formal contact as yet, they made some redundancies yesterday and I've been called to a meeting with my manager and HR VP tomorrow morning. He doesn't like her much, so I'm left with one conclusion. Hopefully I'm worrying needlessly but I doubt it.

I'll look up Rich - I take it he's a solicitor?

Can you make someone redundant who is currently on sick leave?

Nope they either have to resign or you wait till they return. May be different if the company goes tits up though.

You can, but they can delay for a while. In the end they always get "got". Also looks crap on a CV for one's next role.

Have you thought about getting your arse down to the bank and taking out the biggest redundancy insurance you can find and start paying it today?

I would have done it in hindsight in my situation....

You can claim £60 a week in JSA until you find another job providing that your redundancy payment and savings dont go over a certain limit (there was a thread earlier in the week cant find link)

Thanks guys,

I have insurance which will pay the mortgage interest, should be OK there. JSA may be needed, main thing is to keep up NI contributions.

However, the real game here is to ensure that the company correctly follows process and acts fairly. Hence I need a solicitor to assist.

I'll know in the morning, so will call Rich if it comes to it. If not, well, I'm not sure I dare to hope.

Depends on the condition.

If it falls under the DDA they are going to need to have investigated reasonable adjustments first. BUT the question is, is it a genuine redundancy? If yes, then what do you want a lawyer for?

With respect to procedures, look at the ACAS website, it has lots of information on there.

I'm dubious that they can eliminate my role completely enough to justify a redundancy. I'm fairly senior in the company, eliminating my entire department would stop the business dead in its tracks. Also, HR have a history of not following process, so as a non-expert in this I feel I need expert help.

i got kicked out when the rest of the team were contractors, was not heppy but the pay out was good and the prospects are good for me as i have no ties at the moment.

Worth checking what's included as part of your household contents insurance / Employee Assistance scheme. Some of these offer quite generous allowances for legal advice
