Have converted the loft into a games/tv room and now looking to add a projector as well.

My initial thoughts were something like a themescene HD81 http://www.audiovision.co.uk/themescene-hd81-contr...

Is this a good projector? Are there any others around the same price(£3000) that others can recommend?

Room is 16' square, and with the eaves, a 110" picture should be possible if my high school pythagoras is still working. There are 2 velux windows and a dormer window in the room and they will be properly treated.

You need to be able to sit back at least 1.5 times the screen width, preferably twice. So on a 9' wide screen you need to be back 14' for comfortable viewing.

I would personally avoid anything DLP. I have not found one yet where I cannot see the colour wheel spinning every time I blink.

This is a good site for info.

I have seen one of these in action at work.

http://www.epson.co.uk/projectors/Epson-EMP-TW2000...

Doesn't have the spinning wheel thing inside uses 3 LCD technology so it doesnt flicker, so I'm told.
The picture quality is pretty amazing! It is full HD, has 2 HDMI ports, it has higher lumens than the one you have been looking at so it will be a bit brighter.
All in all a very good projector.

Hope this helps!

Can you give some more information as to the room?

Distance to main seating position

Distance to closest viewing position

What screen you plan to use

There are a few options around your budget but to advise properly I need a bit more info ideally.

The seating will be along the opposite wall from the screen, so 13'-14' from the image. There wont be any closer seating.
Not made any decision on a screen as yet, open to suggestions.

Thanks.

All projectors are not created equally.

Right... I've been thorugh a lot of pj's over the years and currently have the epson tw2000 on an 80" fixed glass panel screen - moved down from a 100" just for a better fit over the fireplace... the projectors i would look at are the JVC HD100 or HD1 and the Epson tw2000. The HD1 is renowned for impressive black levels, the HD100 is over budget but is a serious bit of kit. You should be able to get the epson however for around £2k if you shop around or order it from Hong Kong and spend the rest of the budget on a very good screen and callibration. Check out avforums for some top notch advice on this.

As far as the Epson goes i think it's the nuts, i've had it since January and have no plans to upgrade again as it don't get much better than this smile i can use it in daylight and get a plasma quality picture!!

I'm thinking of upgrading my Panasonic projector with the new PTAE3000 which is out soon, lots of good reviews so far.
