I have a friend who is getting married. But the m-i-l to be is a pain in the arse. She has rowed with them from the start about the arrangements. As far as I can tell, its virtually everything she has meddled with.
And now I know its causing friction in the couple themselves. They have tried to stand up to the witch, but got no where, and I think they may be taking it out on each other somewhat.
Anyone got any ideas?
I'm about to suggest they elope. Seriously.

My MIL was a right pain in the backside for months as she wanted Amy to have the fairy tale big white wedding she never had. We couldn't afford the big church do and we didn't want to borrow money to do it - we had a small register office do (40 people - all close family), the same people to the wedding breakfast, then 200 guests in the evening for a big party!
In the end she came around to our way of thinking but it caused lots of problems for a while, not least the fact that I wanted to tell her to mind her own business and f

I think you're right - the threat of elopement, or a quick (secret, no guests or family) registry office wedding is probably the only thing which might bring the old battleaxe to her senses. It's very sad, but unfortunately all too common for relations to hi-jack weddings for their own purposes, forgetting whose day it really is.And now I know its causing friction in the couple themselves. Civil ceremony at registry office
Or on a nice beach somewhere, with everyone but the MIL. That'll learn her
Dear MIL,
Having a great time. Weather fantastic. Apartment luxurious. Food awesome. Entertainment great.
By the way, we got married last Monday - the wedding list is still available at John Lewis, if you want to pop down and buy a gift, that would be lovely.
See you in a fortnight.
Tinman & Mrs Tinman
PS Could you be a love, and pop into ours and feed the fish please? Plus if you could drop off a fresh loaf and a pint of milk for the day we get back, that'd be super.

He could afford do, but for some reason he hasn't acted. They thought of that a couple of months ago, and I even suggested it, and its not like he'd be hard hit if he did either. But with 5 weeks to go I think they may have missed that possibility.

. I often wonder if interfering relatives and the resulting stress leading up to a 'big' wedding doesn't actually lay the seeds for the divorce that often follows several years later. Timmy35 said:

Even MsT who has heard it from the brides to be side has said the same thing. Her (MsT) first marriage was out of her control and her words "she despised that for years". Probably still does in fact.
