Just had to pop to my local all night garage on the A14 for some milk and chocolate.

What a strange experience that is. The staff look like they have been lobotomised. There were 3 girls dressed as nurses getting out of a mini cab looking somewhat worse for wear and a bunch of lorry drives who look like they haven't seen the light of day in years let alone a shower.

And I haven't even mentioned the drug dealer BMW parked in the corner of the car park looking very dubious.

Probably cops waiting to do an armed hi-jack of the do-nut wagon as it does its early delivery. hehe

All Night Garages are great. Unlike most '24 hour opening' places which are closed when you need to go to one, they are actually open all of the time!

Tesco say there open 24/7, then you read the small print on the board (only people with 20/20 vision & a microscope can see) and they are closed from 10pm Sunday night until 8am Monday morning.

I think you will find it is 10pm saturday. Sunday is 10am-4pm. But that is because it is the law for stores over a certain square footage.

Indeed it is, and I found that out the hard way when I ran out of milk one Sunday morning so shot out to get my morning coffee 8am on the Sunday to Tesco, to discover it shut.....

Not in Scotland. 24 hours means 24 hours, although I think they shut late Christmas Eve and open early again Boxing Day, which is outrageous.

The zombie over the road from me is called John, and he's hilarious. He shuffles around doing god knows what all night. I bought a calzone in a drunken mess one night, got home it had no filling. Bit like Johns skull.

Why are some McDonalds 24hrs now ? Is it cheaper to keep them open ?

And another thing, why do 24hr garages have locks on the doors ?

Probably. Close at 11, cleandown until 0100, taxis on the account for staff with no transport, then people in at 0600 to start up again.

If you sell "something" you've probably covered the costs of staying open.

Took the Elise out for a quick 30 minute shakedown in the middle of last night, prior to the Kent Run tomorrow.

Made a brief fuel stop, just about to pay when a horde of braying, hollering chavs came swaggering onto the garage forecourt.

Made my exit sharpish.

They must shut sometimes cos it's illegal to increase the prices of products while the store is open and trading. I usedto work at a Sainsburys and this was all done prior to the store opening.
