Are they mad? How on earth do they think that is achievable?

Imagine trying to cut your personal CO2 output by 80%?

Drive to work one day a week?
Only one holiday away by plane every 3-4 years?

It's madness!

I'll have retired and be living abroad by then, so mark me down for no work a trip back to the UK every year. To laugh

Considering the large majority of emissions come from only a few sources, I don't think it would be too difficult to change them in 42 years - think what our industry was like in 1966.

From DEFRA

CO2

38.9% from Energy
21.7% from Transport

So, all Nuclear and all electric cars by then.

CH4

38% form Agricultue
41% from Waste Treatment and disposal

Stop farming and piss in the sea.

N20

63% from Direct Soil Emission

Concrete over all mud.

Job done.

To me those numbers make it even more impossible!

Aha, now there's your answer. Impose impossible targets and then cash in when they're missed.

Add the cost of this to the bank bail-out, and the Olympics, and I really don't see where all the money is going to come from.

Besides, even IF the UK cuts emissions by 80% (hello Stone Age) nobody else will, so it will make jack all difference - except that we screw ourselves.

Yes, the UK is - forgive the term - a drop in the ocean when it comes to emissions. There's very little point raping and pillaging this little island when the vast majority of emissions come from elsewhere.

The lefties (the kind of idiots who gave Whittle's jet engine to the Russians) would call it 'setting an example to the world' banghead

And everyone one else calls it crippling the country to bring us back to the stone age. Special exemptions for socialist projects and households, natch.
I really do not understand how the people clamouring for this sort of measure cannot comprehend the imapct it will have on the economy, especially given that it is in the crapper right now. Are they thick or what?
