A lot has been said on here recently (using plenty use of hindsight by some it has to be said wink), about people and not to mention 116 councils sticking their money in the “wrong” banks.

For the benefit of those of us that are not in the know (eg me), which banks would the panel be happy to put their own money into if they had some?

In the interest of debate let’s assume the amount to be invested requires 10 banks minimum to stand half a chance of not losing anything. A sensible return is also essential so sticking it all into National Savings isn't the answer.
Let’s also not forget that only one bank from any one banking group is allowed (eg Santander, Abbey, Bradford & Bingley, Alliance and Leicester).

So, which 10 would you pick?

We can then look back at this when this horror has unfolded some more and see how close we were to getting it right smile

more a case of all the safe banks have done an Elvis...

Personally I'm leaving it with HSBC and ignoring the fact it could be performing better!

Not a bank but Nationwide seems to be fairly sturdy. I'm no expert though (Although the number of being let go right now shows you how much being an 'expert' is worth). Not that that seems to help at present!).

Smack Bank is a breath of fresh air in the world of banking. Opening a new account, you will receive a welcome gift of Champagne and Chocolates.

And you will sleep soundly at night, with the knowledge that your money is being spunked re-invested into the world economy, into safe commodities such as the arms trade, fossil fuels and alcoholic beverages, which benefits me us all.

Our Indian call centre will make you feel like mug a valued customer, unlike HSBC where you are a number.

Join us, with the knowledge that your investment is making the world a better place.

Despite the overhyped press Lloyds TSB is still very safe indeed.

Edited to say that it's just had it's Aaa rated reconfirmed by Moody's

If I PayPal you £1 to open my Account... (No mention of minimum amount in your 'terms') How long will it be before my Champagne and Chocolates arrive?
