I dont usually post serious topics, which many of you maybe aware of!

However, i cant quite get my head around this.

Why is it, that every 2 years or so, the government re classify Cannabis? It's always the same as well, "government advisors have said".

No wonder that everyone is unclear on the law, not even the police know what they should be doing.

What should be done about it? i know there are a few smokers on here, but there are also non smokers who are for it and obviously against it.

If our prisons are full as it is, without putting a load of pot heads in there as well.

You're not going to be put away for possession, end of.

The new laws state, 3 strikes and then prison, 1st time they confiscate it, 2nd you get a caution, 3rd time you are arrested and possibly face 5years inside

Downgrading it to a Class C narcotic was the correct choice.

Cretins cant leave it alone though and go home to congratulate themselves, with a glass or 10 of wine.

not sure, might be something about it here:

http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/drugs/drugs-law/canna...

it was dropped to class c in December 2002, so why the sudden change, they say "skunk" is now a lot stronger, so what? its the same drug with the same health risks and the same effect.

If this is the case then "possibly" is the key word here, what they are saying is that you won't be prosecuted unless you have been caught 3 times at least.

Even then you will more than likely get a small fine.

The maximum punishments for some crimes are quite scary, but are rarely handed down.

Sounds pretty reasonable if true.

Agreed, in the 10 years I smoked it(given up now) I never once got stopped or had police issues.

WRT to skunk being "stronger" its pretty much an impossibility. The cannabis plant itself can only be made up of a certain amount of THC, arond 28% or so I think. Hash on the other hand has got stronger as methods to extract THC from the plant have become more available, bubble bags etc. In Amsterdam you can now buy stuff which as close to cannabis oil as is legally possible, and that its knockout stuff.

Do you not find it slightly missleading?

Its downgraded to class c, then back up to class b, even though its widely to be considered to be safer than alcohol, yet you could face prison now they have decided to re classify it because they have no quality control.

Personally i think if your smoking it in public, just like drinking in the street or in parks then yes you should be given a rollocking and even fined.

I honestly cant see why they cant legalise it and be done with it, that would ensure its potency is controlled, it would eliminate the criminal factor and it'd be taxable as well

which is the answer to the exact reason they give for re classifying it as class b wobble

Would that be the Buddha? 98% THC, burn it with a hot knife and sit back and go hippy

I think possession has always been punishable by a prison term, it just never happens.

I agree that legalising it would be the best option, but as for controlling potency and making it taxable, thats not something that would ever be workable.

Not sure what its called, Barneys Breakfast Bar sell a version of it. They keep it in the fridge because as soon as it gets to room temperature it just gets ridiculously sticky and impossible to work with.

It would be taken out of the hands of the dealers, i cant see how it wouldn't be easily taxable either it'd be no different to tax on tobacco.

The only think i dont like about it being legalised is the thought of coffe shops and people openly smoking it.
