so watching the news tonight, it seems the scots now want a £1 billon from us but still want independence - it seems we should let them have what they want - but keep the cash - I really can't see how they would survive for more than a week or two.

A great country and wonderful people but there seem to be a few too many people in power there (a bit like here really) who have watched braveheart a few too many times.

May as well give it to them.

This government seems to be well flush at the moment with all the billions they seem to have at they disposal.rolleyes

I dread to think what's going to happen when it all needs paying back.

Its funny really how you (as a country)say that we sponge off England for all we're worth, its a lie. We have the banks, a Fifer started The Bank of England, he was from the same place that the PM comes from Kirkcaldy.

I have been told off repeatedly by forum members for going on about Scotland vs England, I've had it for 8 years being down south, don't get me wrong I am engaged to a beautiful English lady and I get on well with the English as a whole until they start bringing up fabricated rubbish about how much they have to pay for us.

the old typecasting of the scots as "careful with money" has been completely blown out of the water, not sure this thread has been here before???

I think they would actually do pretty well on their own!! I mean, perhaps not at first, but the EU certainly would sort them out, they would most certainly have to join the Euro to become stable and enjoy europes money until they could stand on their own feet!

so why don't they then instead of this continual whining and flow of cash from south to north?

I live in Scotland and I pay loads of tax. It goes down to London before any of it comes to me. Do you think no one in Scotland pays tax?
A greater amount of my tax goes to look after Londoners than Scots.

Im not really sure it is up to the Scots alone! Plus there would I think be a little tear up between the North Sea oil as to who would have ownership of that!! Cant see England/Wales/N.Ireland giving that up to easily as everyone enjoys the benifits from it in the UK

And it'll be £2bn for the South East, there is only 5 million people in Scotland, the South East is a bigger drain on all resources than the whole of Scotland.

You'd never hear them asking for £1Bn

They'd just nick it.

Actually Alex Salmond wanted £1bn, not all of us, and even so the breakdown isn't as ridiculous as you may think. Most of it is money that's part of the Scottish executive's budget anyway - it's just not released for use in one lump sum.

I'm not saying I agree with his proposal (although the man IS an economist), but at least try to see past the tabloid-esque headlines.

And yes - independence for Liverpool! hehe
