So, some of the councils who have lost money because it was in Icelandic banks now need emergency funding to pay wages.

Can't see it being forthcoming at the moment.

Could this be the catalyst for Government (local and central) to actually start looking at the numbers of people they employ?

With the employment rights of the workers, they will have to use the buffet budget GASP.

They won't even think about that because they know they will all come out on strike like the good 1970s unionists they are in support of their brothers and sisters.

They will raise local taxes and screw everyone else though. As long as their own gravy train is running they don't care about anyone else.

This is all going to get amusing (not). And a bit communist, no doubt. Where does the 'emergency funding' come from? That'll be us. Again. Just when we're all floating in spare cash (not).

And all because our idiot councils decided to play 'financial genius' with their budgets. wkers.

Thats not strictly true.. whilst it is true that there are many non jobs in central government departments I think you'll find that the majority of LOCAL Government especially the front line services that effect most of us directly are actually pared right back to the bone already... although there probably is a performance monitoring department responsible for compiling the KPi's that has loads of staff rolleyes

And there are also plenty front line staff who pare right back the amount of work they actually carry out. Speaking from personal experience, I've witnessed both in local govt and public sector a shocking number of people cruising along in jobs they aren't really performing in and being overpaid for.

I appreciate that there are also plenty who do work hard and earn every penny.
