Hi,
I have a problem with my Nokia N95 and Orange. The battery is crap and the phone keeps crashing. Orange say it is a known fault and there is nothing they can do about it so tough luck basicly. They say they are working on the problem with nokia till they resolve the issue.

Untill then i have to stick with it. Now I bought the phone directly from them so it was a distance sale and am 6 months into a 18 month contract.

Any ideas to get orange to fix it. Or am i stuck with it.

try the latest firmware.
it makes the battery last slightly longer and doesn't crash as much.
still a poor phone though frown

I had a problem with the battery in my N95 mark one which is a BL-5F, same as is used on the new N96. They only last about 7 months and are only guranteed for six months frownyes

The later N95 8Gig has a completely different battery which is both more powerful and slightly deeper so it will not fit (properly) into the earlier model.

Yeah, my 8 gig has good battery life but has crashed about 8 times in the 6 months I've owned, it.

Can't be bothered ringing up about it though.

I've got to agree with Batty on this. Make sure you back-up your phone contents and then upgrade the phone. Nokia.co.uk will have the link you need. Make sure you follow the manufacturer instructions, otherwise the results could be disasterous!

N95 is a crap phone and unfortunately there's not much Orange (or any other service provider) can really do about it at this stage.

N96 on the other hand seems (so far) to be a whole lot better.

The network specific firmware usually lags behind the unbranded one. It is quite simple to change the phone ID from network specific to unbranded, so when you do the firmware update, you get the newest, and unbranded software.

Be careful, because if you mess this up, you'll end up with a paperweight that looks and awful lot like an N95. Its not difficult, but please be careful.

The vanilla firmware is pretty much rock solid now, and my battery lasts longer than it ever did.

The network firmware releases are usually quite shoddy and poorly updated. Might be worth seeing if you can reflash with the standard Nokia firmware.

Latest release is;

V30.0.015 (15-07-08)

Indeed, the latest firmware that Nokia supply has been good for the last 3 revisions (12 months or so).

However, as pointed out by other posters, the network allowed firmware lags significantly.

The N95 on recent firmware is a fine handset, and certainly no more prone to crashing/lockups than any other handset I have in the magic cupboard.

Yup. Google "Nemesis Software Suite" and you should find what you need. It is easy, and I've done it countless times with no issues, but do back everything up first and take care, because if you brick it you're on your own.

I get 3-4 days from my N95 8GB. Its on Vodafone, so it doesn't have silly stty Orange software installed, running the latest firmware.

If you turn WIFI scanning and bluetooth off, the battery life is excellent.

That sounds very familiar - Nothing unusual there hehe

I've had mine for 14 months now and no amount of firmware updates can stop it crashing and having crap battery life, only slightly improve things. It's a st phone!

Be sure to get Midnight Pool. It's a perfect companion for the loo smile
