Looked back and found that as we all know we had the 1920/30's depression but also the 1870's depression, the worring thing is that the lessons learned from the 1870's made zero impact to the 1920/30's as they made the same mistakes.

Look at today - were again making the identical mistakes & we can all see it coming.

The other thing to note is this
1870 - 1890 depression
1929 - 1950 depression
1970 - 1982 long recession (but not depression)
2008 -????

So are depressions part of the Capitalist economy cycle?

Not as such but they are a fact of dealing with markets driven by human emotion.

A recession technically is two quarters of negative growth.

The dates you have cited contain years of growth.

The 1930-35 US Great depression was certainly very bad and probably the first true global depression.

Well, if the opposite of Capitalism is Communism, that's in a permanent depression. At least with captitalism you get some goood times as well.

NB Capitalism is merely the reflection of most of the human race. We all want to better ourselves - it's the same instinct that got us out of caves.

During the great depression the USSR was booming & at the time essentially showing the Captialist world they had got it right with Communism.
