As per title, was going for the Goodmans GHDsomethingorother160Gb but having read reviews on Amazon it appears to be crap, keeps rebooting, missing recordings etc.
I don't know anyone who's got one except for the sky+ thingy which I have NO intention of getting.

BT Vision.

Better than most HDD recorders and a PVR to boot.

Humax seem to get good reviews. My mum's just bought one but no feedback as yet.

Got two 9200's No major problems and it's certainly the best of the PVR's. The 9200 has been replaced by the 9150 and 9300. Only major difference's is that the 9300 has an HDMI output and a 320gb disk. If you go to the HUMAX online shop the 9200 is available with a 320GB drive.

I've got a Topfield TF5800 PVR (160GB). Had it for about three years now and it's been faultless. It has the advantage that it's driven by a standard OS behind the scenes (Linux I think) which means you can download and install your own EPGs and other tweaks to the box (have a look at www.toppy.org.uk for what's around).

Had mine for over 3 years now IIRC - fantastic piece of kit.
When it first came out series link wasnt available so you could only schedule 20 things, this has since changed about a year + ago.

Ive the 160gb version and generally have 50 odd things to watch on it at any one time.

Never used the edit function & never used the picture album download function.

If I was to get a replacement that 320gb would be it - Oh and it looks good too.

Cost me £185 when i got it - at the time I was considering Sky purely for its sky+ ability.... so 3 years I have saved £1800 subscription! yipee.

Humax 9300t. Brilliant.

I've got a Thomson DTI6300 in my bedroom which is quite unreliable, continually freezes, and frequently forgets to record stuff.

Cheers guys, just read a couple of reviews on the Humax and it does appear to be the best.

Only problem mentioned over and over is a low level hum from the fan, this will be going in the bedroom so is it really as bad as made out and if so can it be powered off without losing its settings when not in use?

Well its £27pcm and once you end the subscritpion your sky+ box stops working.... a year down the line you will have spent £324, and just have a box.

Even if I did go the sky route - I'd buy the HD recorder from Humax for sky - ditto cable as they are different boxes.

One for freeview ariel, one for cable, one for sky dish.

One of ours is in the lounge and makes no noise. My daughters is in her bedroom and there is a a very low level "hum" but it does not disturb her at all. I think it's what it's sitting on that makes a difference.
