A man just came to my door offering to sell me an aerial photo of my house from many moons ago.

I was interested until he told me it was £60!! Which i thought was a bit steep for a photo.

Anyway, it got me thinking if there is anywhere on the internet that i can find aerial photos of my house? - The older the better and obviously free if possible!! The only ones i've found are zoomed right out like you get on Google Earth...

If you still have his number offer him £20 for it, It's no use to anybody else? It's your house.

Yeah i told him to come back in a few months and we'd do a deal. I thought i'd see if i could get it free from the internet before i gave him my hard earned...

i had a look on local.live.com but it was showing drawn maps rather than photos.

Hire of light aircraft, petrol, insurance, pilot with commercial licence - the print is the easy bit. Could you do it for less?

My parents have one of their place, but I'm sure it was more like £20/£30.
£60 seems a little steep and like someone else said, who else is going to want it?! hehe

Buy your own Helicopter or Microlight, and you can take as many pictures of your house as you like,

May not be the cheapest option however!

I don't think they hired an aircraft just to phtotgraph my house 15 years ago!

Besides, he was telling me he gets them from a company he used to work for who give him access to their library, so i doubt it cost him more than 10mins of his time and a printer.

Why on earth bother with an aircraft of some sort?

A remote control helicopter is the way to do it yes

(I had a business idea for this many moons ago - a helicopter, with suitable stablisiers for the camera, and you go knocking door to door, which enables the people to cut their lawn, get washing in, move cars etc - or just agree a time to come back, then show them the shots when you take it. Never got any further with it though hehe )

Used to be done on a local scale with light aircraft photographing the odd site.

Then the Millenium Map was produced in...errr....2000. First tiled overhead photography in the UK that could be found via coordinates IIRC. Since then I think "they" have done may more overhead surveys at different heights and resolutions. There was a map site that you could view Google/live earth at the same time and flick between the two. The really cool ones are adding height data to buildings too so you can do 3D - useful for site lines etc for developments.

Wait until it is somebodys birthday and then let everybody club together and buy them a trip in a light aircraft as a special treat. Go with them and order the pilot to fly over your house - job done.

Set timer on camera.....then throw it as high in the air as you can, ideally over the roof of your house....then run round and catch it....print picture out, job done.

NB, you may need to try a few times to get the right orientation and focus.
And you might need a new camera if you catch like a girl
