I want to get myself something nice to get married in. Probably looking at a budget of £800-£1000 so I know I'm not going to get anything fully bespoke for that.

I've read on english cut about made-to-measure and this sounds like the level I can expect to buy at. Does this sound correct?

Any suggestions on shops/tailors to visit? I'm planning a Saturday up in London to get something ordered.

Assume this isn't going to be a formal church 'do'?

No, we're not religious in the slightest so it would feel a bit hypocritical.

No thanks. Ideally I'll get something that I can get some use out of afterwards too.

I think that is definitely worth looking into. Have you used them yourself?

I haven't - though have heard good things about their operation and certainly would if I was about to throw £500+ at a suit (I usually spend around the £300 mark for work suits so go for off-the-peg)

A grand should get you into a proper tailor (Sims & McDonald etc.).

Forget Dress2Kill and the like - I've seen the results.

Simple, go to Hacket, G&H, Crombie etc... buy an off the peg suit (400 - 600), get it adjusted; sleeves , length, most importantly sides nipped in to make it look Tailored. ONLY; 2 button, double vent, spend the rest on a pair of church's shoes (start at 250), a 'Thomas Pink' shirt (must be french cuff) and silk tie (85 + 55), just use knots as cufflinks.

Get a good haircut too.

Good luck.

Hugo Boss do some rather nice suits for that kind of price range. If you're in town they have a place on Sloane Sq. Dunhill (Jermyn St) are fabulous, but maybe beyond the price range I don't know - maybe worth a look though, and the service is fabulous.

Save a grand and don't get married.

No? Okay, then that kind of cash will get you a tailored suit no problem. Can take a few weeks to get made mind. Where abouts are you?

Head down to Brighton & give these guys a visit www.greshamblake.com

I have 3 suits from them 2 mtm & 1 bespoke & they are great. Quality on a par with similar I have got from more traditional tailors in London but not so pricey
