Enviromentaly friendsly Hottub, cool too
Discussion

Basically it is a wood fired hot tub, looks really simple and modern. Not that expensive either when you compare it too cheap electric hot tubs.

( scroll the gallery pictures on the bottom right of the picture).
I really like it, and especially the fact it portable, you can BBQ on the fire, looks really easy to look after and a definite talking piece.
I WANT ONE ! ( will have to wait til I find myself a secondhand bargain though, hate buying new )
Edited to add, Jesus Christ spell check the text but don't even proof read the title, DOH !!!!

3.5k + bits, could get a proper hot tub for that money.
Proper set up will cost you much more than £3.5k. You might get some for that money but there are lots of horror stories. Also the running costs are very expensive.
I am not saying it is cheap but I do think it is a great piece of design and I would have one in a flash if I could find one around the 1.5-2k mark, partly for the looks, partly for the fact I would love a hot tub but am not too keen on the running costs or the "permanence" of having one in the back garden ( two people could easily move this, think it weighs around 70kg without water).
Also looks easy to keep clean without chemicals, and I would be worried about not using it and it costing me money/taking up space for no reason, could even taking it to friends houses for big events/parties.
It is lacking one or two important things though. Like a thermostat, for one. I'd say the water outlet (where the heated water exits the heat exchanger coil and comes into the tub) would be a major scald hazard. Or are you meant to douse the fire before getting in, in which case there is no way of maintaining the temperature.
It's not so much a wood-burning hot tub as a wood-burning communal outdoor bath really.
Edit: The reason the lad in the 2nd picture has that expression on his face is he is suffering third-degree scalds to his genitalia.

Major burn hazard on the exposed coil too. You can see how its changed colour due to thermal action. Kiddy leans on that their scarred for life.
So what you're saying is that this thing is effectively a 21st century cauldron for cooking people?JonRB said:

It is a tub that gets hot, therefore a "hot tub";), fair enough it doesn't have the all singing and dancing bubbles and dvd players etc but I love it for its simplicity. It's not so much a wood-burning hot tub as a wood-burning communal outdoor bath really.

You can regulate the temperature via the fire in the coils, the higher you have the fire the slower/cooler the water is coming out. Fire can be moved whilst it is burning.
You can also get a chimney for the fire, but yes it would be hot so (claps hands ) "I want to see safety goggles"
Doesn't seem that popular here, I love though.
HOT BALLS, get your hot ballsTony*T3 said:

I was worried ( thinking more about getting one ) about what you said then thought that the water would cool the tubes down, checked and I was right
Children and fire
The dutchtub is as dangerous as any other pool or bbq. The water is wet and the fire is hot. But the spiral doesn’t get red hot. It cools itself because of water circulation. Caution must be taken whenever children are in the presence of these two elements.
Also the scalding your balls thing, Again wasn;t too keen, but the water is constantly circulating not getting heated once and firing out piss hot water, it heats slowly so sitting by the upper vent would mean slightly warmer water than the other side til mixed. No scalding of balls. Takes about 1 1/2-2 hrs to get to 38dC.
Regulate the heat of the water
What happens in the spiral will happen in the tub. Hot water on top of cold water. To heat efficiently one needs to stir the water once in a while. When the water gets too hot, you can allow the fire to burn slower or simply spin the basket up within the coil (exposing fewer coils to heat) to regulate the circulation. The higher the basket, the lower the circulation. This option preserves the ambiance of the flame.
Now I am really want one.
Bloody PH'er nay sayers, making me doubt my own taste;)

I'd like it if it didn't look like the bottom half of a giant piggybank.
I like the look of it.Ok maybe you are all seeing this in the wrong light ( posting pics of a tanned guy chopping wood was probably never the way forward to sell it on here ).
Try this

Any better ?

Not exactly enviro friendly is it? Chopping trees for the wood, then burning the wood sending smoke into the atmosphere.
Go Go Green!
Yes it is.Go Go Green!

Trees grow back, coal/oil doesn't ( well not at a usable rate )
Grow wood, co2 points +
Burn wood, co2 points -
co2 output of growing wood and burning = 0
MUCH better than an electric one.
I am not too hung up on the "environmental" aspect, more the looks and the idea of a nice fire crackling away whilst I relax after rugby training, with a cold beer and a naked Girlfriend tickling my balls.
