An amusing sideline to the market gloom.

Have a go at this. You can be in charge of interest rates. Move interest rates around and see what impact it has on the economy...

http://www.frbsf.org/education/activities/chairman...

I ended up with rates at 4.25%, inflation at 2.95% and unemployment at 4.2%.

Pretty damn good if say so myself. Darling, out of my way , I'm taking over !

First attempt playing it seriously ended up with rates at 4.5%, inflation at 2.3% and unemployment at 4.1%.

Second attempt playing it stupidly ended up with rates at 0.0%, inflation at 1.0% and unemployment at 1.5%.

FFR 2.50%
Unemployment 4.75%
Inflation 0.84%

Worryingly, this almost justifies the governments "do nothing" approach, only by fluke though.

Well I guess that if you're adrift in the ocean of the global economy, paddling your piece of driftwood in any direction doesn't make much difference...
