So now that Greece and Ireland and Germany (sort of) have agreed to guarantee all bank savings will the dynamic duo do the same in the UK?

Seems to me the outflow from UK banks will be huge otherwise.

Even those two spacktards can't ignore this can they?

But do they actually have the money to guarantee all deposits?

Germany have not provided any guarantees. Angela Merkel just offered political and government support, not actually guarantees. This was exactly the same as what Darling said, so its no different. This might change obviously, but so far its only Ireland and Greece who have done this, but they are much more exposed than everyone else, so its hardly surprising.

The Germans haven't promised to protect 100%, though.

It was a statement of political rhetoric by Merkel, not a policy promise.

"The state will protect your savings"

The thick clots at Labour just took it too literally.

I was thinking if the cash flows out of British banks, then the government wouldn't have to guarantee so much, so from their point of view it would be a good thing wouldn't it?

it does piss me off though that banks shaft their customers every single day of the year in a big way, yet when they are in trouble, we are sorting them out!!! they never looose

What I'd really like to see is a government plan to take this whole issue forwards.

Not just the financial crisis but the economic one that will follow it sure as night is day.
