Yup
Had quite a lot of back pain in the small of my back in the last year, it usually comes after playing football each week. If it's really bad I go and see a local physio woman who massages me, pulls me back into shape, Tens machine, all that gubbins, for £25. It usually works, but I'm getting a bit fed-up with it now and considering going to see a specialist for a long-term fix if possible.
I suggest you go and see someone. I worry that mine will only get worse with age.

But highly recommend a very good massesue/therapist. I'm going to invest every month from now on. £30 an hour too, cheaper than hygienist treatment

I've suffered from a squashed disc since I was 14. Initially it didn't give me any problems at all on a day to day basis but would then occasionally (2 or 3 times a year) completely collapse and leave me stranded wherever I was. As I got older the complete immobility dissappeared but was replaced with a dull ache all day every day along with general stiffness. Regular visits to the chiropractor for about three years initially helped but then ceased to have any noticeable effect.
About 18 months ago we replaced one of our sofas in the lounge with a pair of armchairs. Since then I have had to sit upright in a chair, rather than allow myself to slouch sideways on a sofa. I haven't been to a chiropractor for over a year and am generally having much less problems!
PS: Please note I am a fat barsteward and I fully appreciate that some exercise would help matters even further.

OH has got a lower bad back problem. You MUST get it checked out with a professional. In the mean time take a look here - http://www.sarahkey.com
OH has had fantastic results using her theories. By the way, the block she suggests is the size of a common house brick.(When you read her suggestions, you will understand the 'brick' thing.)

yep. Had an MRI which apparently ruled out bone cancers, deformities and disc damage. I am booked in for another scan after some kind of injection to make more stuff show up - the consultant thinks it might be something to do with my ribs meeting my spine!
Lots of ibuprofen and paracetamol for me. And wait.

Back care charity site has some good exercises. You can also call them for free advice.
Here is a summary of the tips they gave me, which I posted in the cycling section.

Go see a physyo, ive got really bad pains in my lower back and between my shoulder blades as a result of a car crash 16 months ago. ive had about 35 visits so far plus im going to the gym 7 or 8 times a week,im just waiting on my appointment for my mri scan now the worse times for me is if i bend over to flush the toilet or stand still for to long then it just locks up and the cold weather is bad for me as well, its getting me down now.
See your doctor, I did recently about a back pain I'd had for months and found out that I have a slipped disc. I've seen a physio weekly since which has helped things and should hopefully see me a full recovery. Would have never guessed that it was a slipped disc otherwise.
