In the long run which 'other' economies do you see as being 'economic powerhouses'.
personally i favour india over china. it's the world's largest democracy (versus the world's largest faux communist empire of doom!). but south america is commodity rich and (slightly) less volatile than africa which oil aside is and always has been a bit of a waste of time.

It'll be China. They're clever little devils!
Do you have any experience of Chinese methodology or their seemingly apparent lack of ability to think of anything new for themselves? If you can define "clever little devils" as "able to copy something perfectly, including the errors in the original" than you could be correct

And yes, I have substantial experience of dealing with the Chinese.

Disappointing amount of support for the alleged commies!
Huh - wtf? The question was which one we think will be biggest powerhouse, not whether we supported that country's regime. I think India's endemic structural issues and infrastructure problems will hold it back.
It's a difficult one. I've worked with both. I've *generally* found Chinese unable to think for themselves and very bad communicators. Very good at copying but perhaps not so good at innovation.
In India education is pushed, and you're very much a disgrace if you dont achieve.
This often leads to accademically clever people. In engineering the great hold back, is the lack of engineers from India who are hands-on as well as accademically good. This is because of the caste system which often disuades those that do follow profession such as engineering to get their hands dirty.
Still, hands on ability is one thing, but there are plenty there who are risk takers and shrewd business men with good business acumen and ability to survive.
Chinas great strength is their order and I suspect, their adpatablity as a group.
India is pretty much a shambles in comparison and I really cant stand the misplaced patriotism amongst Indian-borns who come over here to the US to the point of not seeing their own countries weak points. The Indian-borns I've worked with have often been very very cut throat. But I'm generalising and this may only be the ones i've worked with and/or the ones who have had the drive to work abroad.

I voted Russia.
They are "clever little devils" as already proven by winning the space race, also their weapons were 1st class. They have natural resources, they have culture. They have everythign required for the superpower status. Which they once were and only lost due to implosion.
China has weight of numbers and little else. Their products are and always have been inferior (manufacturing) The chinese economy is an economy built on a house of cards IMO
India is too far behind with their infrastructure to be any challenge for decades yet at least.
South America should by rights be richer than the USA. Poor leadership which has gone on for decades has prevented this from happening, and i don't see it changing anytime soon, corruption is a way of life there.

You should see the misplaced patriotism amongst Americans...I put to you, that had Germany had as unpopular administration as America currently has, alot more there would be unified and unquestioning then over here in the US.
