Bint clearly suffering from post traumatic stress / big cheque from the BBC said:
"At my initiation I was told to dress as a pirate and then summoned to a student house to meet my fellow novices.

There we were told to prepare "bucket juice" - an intoxicating mixture of beer, spirits, alcopops and wine.

We were given Oxo cubes to suck as we were paraded, singing and chanting, around the neighbourhood.

We ended up in a dark basement where raw fish was stuffed down our bras and we were told to eat a nausea-inducing mixture of cat food, eggs and breakfast cereal topped with Bovril, washed down with copious amounts of "bucket juice".

After a lot of vomiting, we were taken upstairs to a car park and pelted with flour, washing-up liquid and eggs, before being led to our final destination, a local nightclub.

Our last challenge was to eat the fish out of our bras. It's also the last thing I remember, owing to the sheer amount of alcohol I had consumed.

What disturbs me most is that although I found the whole experience degrading and disturbing, at no time did I attempt to leave.
Still, sounds like fun smile

Not the later-in-the-article-choking-to-death-on-your-own-vomit bit, natch

The thread title, Dirty, dirty students doesn't lead to what I expected.

I may report this to the mods for misrepresentation.

Things have moved on since I was at Uni 18 years ago - our initiation was 10 pints of real ale in 10 pubs followed by a large doner with double chilli...

NUS spokesman said:
We take this issue extremely seriously and strongly encourage all students' unions to ban these dangerous and reckless ceremonies.
Good to see the union people are the same sort of joyless freaks as they were 15 years ago.

Aye, when I was at Uni back in the early 90s we didn't get much beyond lots of beer and tuna and sweetcorn relish pizzas.

Right, so why is student stupidity in the news?

What could possibly lead someone to actually stand for that crap.

Hell I'd rather have been alone at Uni than go through that sort of st.

Morons.

To be honest, a lot of that sounds quite tame compared to some of the stuff I did for Uni rugby...

Good point raised at the end though......

"He said: "It's my opinion that Gavin died on that night because there was nobody to get him help.

"Everybody was too drunk to be responsible for anyone else. I would suggest that ensuring that there are responsible people would negate the extra risk."

We used to get up to rediculous when I was doing uni/RAF stuff, with people barely able to move due to massive alcohol consumption and just lying prone around the Officers Mess. There was however always someone who was sober who would look after the most toasted of pissheads and check in on them through the night. Plus you could always count on a senior officer stepping in when it all went a bit too far. (Like when I started drowing on the catfood/rations/fetid water combo that you got doused in after your first solo flight)

As long as there is someone with their head screwed on keeping tabs on things, most of the risk is mitigated. When everyone is smashed, it can end in tears.
