If was to order some software on DVD from Switzerland and have it shipped to me here in the UK, will I have to pay import tax and VAT? And if so how much would that be on something costing 300 CHF? Or does Switzerland come under some kind of special rules as it's in Europe?

cheers smile

If its over the customs allowance IIRC £18 for commercial and £36 for a gift then yes you will.

Switzerland had the good sense not to join the EU.

(Of course 'they' tell us that if we weren't in the EU we'd all die horribly; I'm not so sure... Switzerland's doing quite well and doesn't have to house half of Eastern Europe)

Balls! Although I suspected as much frown

It'll be cheaper to order it from a uk distributor then, although there's always a chance it won't get picked up by customs I guess scratchchin

how about easyjet bargain flight booked in advance over? I happen to be in switzerland funnily enough but not back in UK for a few months.

Suprised anything is cheaper here though. Also try the 'gift/trade sample' route? I have a lovely headphone amp from the USA which the swiss customs didnt mind about as was a sample
