It's quite long, but lands a few blows right on Brown's nose... Good speech I thought...
Cheers

Game over GB.
Am I correct in saying that the US have had the equivalent to labour in for the last 8 years? Is there something about Lbr Govts which kill the economy then the torys have to get back in fix it with painfull unpopular decisions then lab come along promising you the world....
Ive never voted Labour and never will.

Apparently Osbourne was writing his speech as Brown was parading in New York.
Brown said: "This has been an age of global prosperity. It has also been an era of global turbulence and where there has been irresponsibility we must now clearly say the age of irresponsibility must be ended."
Osborne retorted: "Gordon Brown has now accurately described his time in office as the 'age of irresponsibility'. For ten years he presided over a debt-fuelled boom and failed to call time on debt. The age of irresponsibility has now become the age of hypocrisy."
The result is in the speech that he gave today, a stunning own goal by the gormless one.

Yes, Labour screw everything up by a mixture of spiralling costs, nationalisation and taxation to pay for it all and the following government have to sort it all out. Unfortunately turning around a ruined economy is like trying to stop a bulk oil carrier. When you apply the brakes and hit reverse it still carries on for a few more miles. It's not until year 2 or 3 of the new government that changes made start to take effect and not until year 4 or 5 that everyone notices the differences, which usually triggers a landslide election victory for the Conservative government. Then after 10 or so years of a solid economic environment the average voter forgets what a shower of sIve never voted Labour and never will.
t the last Labour government was and starts to believe their new spin and follow the "change for changes sake" mantra as before. The newly voted in Labour government basks in the economy and success of the previous Conservative government claiming it for themselves and then buys it's first re-election with a combination of buying votes from the benefits population and lower wage workers and marginal constituencies and hiding the costs within new taxation policies that only come to light when their false economy starts to disintegrate and they start pointing fingers at everyone but themselves.Welshbeef said:

George Bush is hardly a leftwinger and the democrats have only controlled congress for about 2 years (I think).
Some of the blame for the sub prime mess is being placed on financial institutions being compelled to lend to the poor/ethnic minorities back in Clintons time. But much of the blame for any regulatory failure must surely be placed on the current Bush administration.

Should any of that blame be placed on Greenspan's shoulders. He seems to be going around telling people how he knew it was all a bad idea now......
Greenspan is the person principally responsible in my view. Not for any regulatory oversight but in continually slashing interest rates every time the markets hit a hiccup and by holding interest rates at far too low a level. The result was an asset price bubble which has now burst. JagLover said:
