Next November for our 5th anniversary, Mrs Puggit and I want to re-visit the Maldives. I have enough BMI miles for both of us to travel with Qatar Airways in 1st class.

I can't find much info for accommodation only holidays in the Maldives. The resort we honeymooned in only goes through travel agents, who only sell flight and accommodation frown

Anyone with any hints or trips?

And I thought you were giving away free flights...

Anyhoo, you need to look at other resorts. We stayed on Bathala which is tiny - if you want relaxation rather than jetskis I'd recommend it.

We went to Olhuveli (South Male) last year and it was truly fantasic. What we discovered once there, is that the transfers are arranged by the resorts/hotels anyway, rather than tour operators.

See what you think.

www.olhuveli.com

There are stacks of good reviews on TripAdvisor too. Bottom line, I'm sure you can book directly with them and sort out your own flight.

I went to Lily Beach a couple of years ago for a break and it was a lovely place back then.

Seems they've improved it even further: Lily Beach

After having a sift about on the website, they have their own contactable sales team.

What about some one like Expedia who offer hotel only bookings, would they be able to help?

I have looked at booking hotels and flights separately on a number of occasions and only once have I saved money this way.

You might find it will still work out cheaper to buy the package holiday and just not use the flights. For the Maldives I would think the cost is only about £300-£350 of the overall cost for the flights.

That's what I'm fearing!

In which case, as H+J fly Emirates, it's not worth forking out my miles for this, I'll keep them for flying business class down to Joburg and charge the company for the economy price...

Whatever happens we are NOT flying Monarch...

Mate,
Been there a few times and most hotels/islands have their own email address. Contact them directly, piece of cake. The several that I've emailed in the past have been happy to take a room only booking.

Give Stylish Resorts in Kingston a bell. They did my honeymoon for me and were ace! They specialise in the Indian Ocean area and come very highly recommended. They have also done hols for a few mates and they also speak very highly of her!

http://www.stylishresorts.com/

I remember she having a very good relationship with a lot of the hotels out there, she was able to get me allocation and confirmation on my resort despite a lot of other travel agents saying otherwise!

I haven't spoken to her for a while, but IIRC her name is Carol!

Otherwise known as "Coconut Airways".

We flew to The Maldives with Monarch, and it was teeth-grindingly poor.

Never again.

Could you not simply ring the Maldives airport Hotel desk from here, and ask them to book you a hotel room for the day/ period you arrive there?

I tried this in in Mauritius once and it worked a treat. I was flying in from Mozambique and there wasn't a hope in hell of being able to arrange anything beforehand.

Seconded.

We had the misfortune of flying with Monarch last summer to Egypt. On the return flight we were delayed by 5 hours and then the air con was broken in the 1st half of the plane. It was 55 degrees on the runway and by the time we took off I felt like I was sat in a Sauna. Then to top it all off, they ran out of water halfway through the flight.

They also appear to assume all their clients are anorexic because the seating arrangements are a joke.

What a bunch of fkwits! mad

Try the Komandoo Beach Resort as well. Google it and you can book direct by e-mail. Use a credit card to book it too. I recommend a Post Office Mastercard as you get a spot rate and no-commission (3% of £1000s is quite a lot of cash) so you have some comeback in the event of something happening.

The resort is superb only about 300 people on the island, 100 of them are staff, a superb 4* resort, all inclusive, great snorkelling, a very quiet retreat to get away from everything. Can certainly recommend the Jacuzzi water villas.

As for Qatar, better than Monarch, not quite up there with Emirates but close and know quite a few people who flew with them - no complaints.

I don't see Emirates in this list (and we'll be going First) wink

Have flown Emirates to Maldives twice in Economy, and agree it's a good standard.

All looks a bit low-rent to me.

Here. Let me have those tickets and you can have the run of my delightful semi in Surrey whilst I'm gone. You can even have a go on my new Karcher.

It's a big deal to me - my company make me fly cheapest possible ticket frown
