Anyone got any ideas on where I can buy a decent bed?

The obvious choice would be ikea, can anyone recommend anywhere else, as I hate going there.

Least hassle is to get one delivered, so on-line is not a bad plan!

The mattress is far more important than the base (that only needs to be solid). So, anywhere from Argos to John Lewis and buy the best mattress you can afford.

The Big Bed Company.

I bought a bed here a couple of years back and I still can't wait to get into it even now tongue out

Go here: http://www.thebigbedcompany.co.uk/content/en/defau...

Mine is 8' wide x 7' long - stunning...

Edited to add: And there's a sale on.!!

Ikea mattresses are different size to the norm, so you have to buy Ikea sheets too.

No expert, but "pocket sprung" is a phrase I remember. There is a guide here: http://www.johnlewis.com/Magazine/Feature.aspx?Id=...

I bought the most expensive "SleepEasy" I could afford (through Argos, IIRC).

It doesn't matter where the bed comes from - our's is a £99 job from Dreams.

It's the mattress that counts - spend at least £500...

Stay away from some the big names that do a lot of advertising.

Or you may find that your Dreams turn into nightmares.

They take the order and promise a delivery date. They then find that they can’t meet that date because although when the salesman checked stock availability at the time of your ordering, they don’t allocate the bed to the sale at that time. Curiously, a whole hoard of people decided to order exactly the same bed at the same moment and they are now out of stock.

Your bed is now on back order for months. A suspicious person might think they had little or no stock and were taking deposits prior to ordering stock from the manufacturers.

This has happened so often that consumer watchdog programs have featured this.

Being an intelligent little person like I am, I bought a bed frame from Ikea, and a mattress from elsewhere - there is a 2-3 inch gap at one side and the bottom as Ikea bed frames are a little bigger.

You'll be able to get away with normal sized sheets as they are bigger than the mattress anyhow so you have tuckability. You'll just have less to tuck.

I got mine from the local bed shop. Fairly cheap king size frame and the best mattress I could afford. Bought Saturday, delivered Monday. Finally found out that feet dont have to stick out the end of the bed, no matter which way I lie on it

Shop around, but I'd look at the more independant places who are likely to have better deals on and more realistic delivery. One place I went to (you'l find them on most retail parks) was quite happy with 8 week leadtimes

Bedframe from The Iron Bed Company. Handmade, nice, surprisingly cheap. Mattress, Sleepeasy from Argos. Argos do a couple of quite nice looking Victorian style bedframes too these days, I'm thinking about getting one for the spare room.

I remembered that my dad has a friend who works for a furniture wholesaler, I think I may have to ask him.
