Unfortunately, whilst driving along with the family today I happened to ask our 6 year old if a particular girl in his class had ginger hair. This then caused a 10 minute argument.......

My wife informed me that I shouldn't use the word 'Ginger' and that the kids at school are encouraged to describe Ginger hair as 'Red' hair.

At which point I went off on a slight grump about how ridiculous this world has become when we can't even refer to a ginger haired person as having ginger hair.

Apparently, it's to prevent ginger's being bullied and called things like 'gingernut' etc

facking sh11te if you ask me... I now officially have become a grumpy old man...

I'm all against bullying and agree that ginger kids shouldn't be bullied because of their hair colour, but surely kids will find another way of taking the p1ss out of any kid that is slightly different, regardless of whethrer we refer to 'red' heads as ginger or not???

any comments?

I'm a Ginger. or Gwar, Copper nob, duracel batterie, red top, etc etc etc. No its the correct terminology. Us gingers are a tough breed, and it is something that we all come to terms with. There is nothing worse then someone saying ahhhh loookkk he's strawberry blond... my hairy ginger bottom he is buddy! ITS GINGER GINGER GINGER.

Your quite right my friend....

oh and for the record we don't "smell funny"!

It is clearly. They're kids, far too young for them to be using grown up words like that. They should be saying

ginga
ging
carrot top
ewwww

Can't see anything offensive about describing it as ginger hair. I've seen redheads, (I love redheaded women for example) and I've seen people with ginger hair. To me they're not exactly the same. Ginger hair is GINGER. It's that really really orangey colour.

Things are getting out of hand with this PC bullst, baa baa happy sheep, chalk boards, seasons greetings, it has to STOP!

I would say ginger is descriptive. The supposed variant of ginga is abusive. It's like any other attribute I guess, only an issue if the person trying to refer to it is being offensive like referring to someone fat as overweight or the Michelin man.

Kids shouldnt be bullied because of the colour of their hair.

Bit ginga adults should..a lot hehe

Lifes tough deal with it.

Surely by banning the word ginger they are even more so making it a 'bad' word, like when people wouldnt refer to black people as black, thats what they are, nothing to be ashamed of there, by making the word ginger bad, is like saying "its so bad to have ginger hair we cant even say the word"

yesFFS the BBC learnt this lesson in the 70s with Joey Deacon. Kids won't be told.

Fact of life if you stand out in any way (hair colour, skin colour, outlandish clothes, accent, name etc. etc.) then you will be bullied at school, that said it usually toughens the kids up well, I couldn't care less what people call me now (ginger hair) and as an ex car salesman it's a good job!

Tell that to the gymnasts, where it's a particular kind of movement.
