I know the collective PH thoughts on marriage... wink

But if I'm spending several £K on one purchase should I use a credit or debit card for this? I don't actually have a credit card so I'd need to get one if it's worth while.

Credit car will have the insurance with it by the very nature of it being a credit card. Ideally you'll have one giving you cashback and a high interest current account. So every month you earn interest on your wage, cash back on your spends and then pay the card off with the full amount every month. Sorry, I digressed. Credit card is the answer.

Aren't you more likely to be able to return it and get a refund if you pay on credit card? Be a lot easier when she says no then.;)

Don't forget 1.5 x gross monthly salarly is the going rate these days. Anything less and she'll think you're a real cheap skate.

Yes very much wot he said,

Personally I'd get a platinum card, then warm it gently over some heat so you can roll it up and then make it into a nice ring shaped item...

Best of both worlds....

Personally I'd throw it on a CC - but actually thinking about it if you are good with money why not take the normal jewlers offer of 9/12 months 0%...

You bank the money, earn interest on it and pay the monthly from your saved money... I do this all the time - it's worth it for filling in a simple form.. Only if you trust yourself with money..

Simes.

hehe I knew I'd get the wise cracks tongue out

Technically a months salary is just under £600 so she is doing well to get what she is!

I can have the cash so thats no problem. Plus she already said yes wink I'd been thinking about doing the monthly spend on a CC and then just pay it off each month and take the cash back.

Bit of a tangent but whats the best card for cash back at the mo?

how you pay for it is less important than getting a GIA certified stone... I know some poor sods that have been stung by fake rocks in the past frown

Spend £200

If she is upset and throws a major strop it might just be the best £200 you ever spent

I've done my research courtesy of the usual PH sources so I'm all good with the stones.

Some of you lot must be real happy in your relationships wink
