At 11am (800 GMT), a man stormed the vocational school in the town of Kauhajoki, 120 miles from Helsinki, in northwest* Finland, firing "many shots" that left nine dead, police said. The man was later disarmed after he turned his gun on himself.

  • It's actually Western Finland.

There are a lot of nutters out there!

Problem is that in many cases it's the national service army that creates these muppets and gives them training in using many different guns.

There are also many guns in Finland, also partly to do with the reservist army, and a massive interest in hunting, so a total ban of guns as in UK is probably not an option in Finland.

We don't have a total ban on guns here, only pistols and semi-auto fullbore rifles.

The common link with a lot of these cases is the Youtube posts before the event. So ban Youtube I say!

It is quite staggering to know that he was held by plod, and released, and then did this. He clearly wasn't right in the head, so let him go along with his guns, was not a wise decision.

Don't think that a ban would help - it manifestly doesn't. Your gun crime rate is (or was, last time I looked at stats) a hell of a lot lower than ours.
Nutters are nutters, all the legislation in the world wont stop them.
