Will the British mutuals be able to weather the current storm?
I heard, for instance, that the Coventry may come under pressure.

Needless to say I have a big pile of building society passbooks and a with profits scheme with every mutual life company.

interesting thread - i don't think it will - won't they be better placed in the current climate?
apart from funding requirements, the cost fo which they will pass on to new borrowers, I would have thought that the mutuals are having a quiet chrtle as the likes of Halifax & B&B get the stuffing knocked out of them.
Less competition in the marketplace for them.

Not the end, but I think there may be more mergers.
