There are still good people out there...

I went for a meal in a nice restaurant at the weekend and when the bill came realised that I had lost my wallet. Having paid the taxi to the restaurant I knew I hadn't left it at home (which I am prone to do).
The wallet had some cash and a cheque to me for another few hundred €.
My GF paid the bill and we walked up and down the street outside for a few mins. Eventually I gave up not very happy.
A few days later the company who wrote the cheque to me called and claimed that a man rang them and had found my wallet.
I called the man and indeed he had it. To which he adds: "Do you know there was €1,200 in it?"
I bought him a nice present. It restores some of my faith in people when things like this happen.

that's quite cool
I like to think there is generally good in most people
I was once on the outer peage near toulouse and noticed a group of teenage chaps walking towards my car - grabbed my jemmy from the footwell and got out the car only to find them offering me my petrol cap back
which i'd left on the boot after filling up some 20km away..
they must have done well to keep up, they had a battered green nova saloon and I had been doing 140+
I bought them all a beer in the next service station which was amusing after the fact, as they turned out to be spanish and I hadn't a clue what we were all talking (animatedly) about

Went to my favourate mountain biking centre last friday and I was pleased by just how many people were happy to stop and chat, one chap even offered me a blast on his new bike after I showed an interest in it!
On the other hand! My O/H found a mobile in the street on her way to work a few weeks ago and insisted on calling a few of the numbers to see if she could return it, got hold of the owners girlfriend who explained it had been lost whilst he was drunk and arranged for it to be collected. Que the arrival of some scruffy git who when I handed him it said 'you havn't used it have you?' then shuffled off. Didn't even thank us.

I ran out of petrol on Sunbury Rd just before the Anfield rd turn off, quite a busy area. It was the first time I've ever broken down so naturally I was a bit panicky.
A particularly mental looking chap with scars on his face that would make Phil Mitchell tremble got out his car, chapped on my window and asked what was up. After me explaining, he took me in his car to the nearest petrol garage, waited untill I had bought a petrol can, drove me back to my broken down car and helped me get going again.
Here I was, a young "flashy" dresser with a Scottish accent in the middle of scouserville, a half decent little car. If this guy was anything like he looked it wouldnt of suprised me too much if he'd pulled a knife on me and took off with the car.
But yeah, there are some good people still out there.

I left my laptop in the boot of a taxi before after a boozy night out. (From london to basingstoke),
Not only that he was a "dodgey" minicab so had no expectations of gettting it back at all.
Couple of days later I had a call from my bank, he found my bank statement in the bag, called the bank, gave them my details and the bank then got in touch with me,
I paid him the fare from london to basingstoke again and a healthy tip for bringing it back!
Top bloke.

I'd have kept the cash and binned the wallet, tbh.
Are you serious? If you are, that explains why quite so much of this country is as f***ed up as it is.
I'll hold off from calling you a complete w
r on the basis that the post may have been tongue-in-cheek. Did anyone else notice that GarC (OP) spoke about Euros in his wallet - not Pounds. I'm guessing he wasn't in the UK ...
Oli.
ETA: Checked GarC's profile - Location: Dublin, Ireland. Good for the Irish.

r to keep the money, I know. I'd still keep the money though. Maybe, if I was in a good mood, I might anonymously post the wallet back, sans cash.
I know the "correct" response is to think about that poor b
d who's lost all his cash, but he should have looked after it better in the first place. There is also the fact that the money in the wallet is near enough a months wage for me. If it was £20 or something I'd just send it back with the cash. If it was a girls purse... and she looked fit on her ID.

My wife ran out of Petrol on the Roundabout above the M40 at Junction 9. It was very busy and she had our son in the car (who was a baby at the time).
A chap in a white van took them both to the local garage to buy some petrol in a can put into the car and saw them on their way. In the panic she never got his details but I would like to buy him a very large beer (it was a few years ago now)
She lost her phone in a taxi a few weeks back and we thought it was knicked but the driver handed it into lost property. It was a pleasant surprise.
There does seem to be plenty of nice people about.

I found some bloke's wallet on the train to Cardiff from Newport a few years ago. I had to ring every random number in his wallet until I got someone who knew how to get hold of the owner. He had a lottery ticket in his wallet; I do remember thinking as I handed it back "if you've won five million quid, I'm going to cry".

I seem to remember that Macintire fellow walking about in dodgy parts of london trying to get mugged for his laptop/phine/ipod etc.And the biggest problem he had was people kept stopping him and saying "You want to cover that lot up mate or you'll get mugged".
Most people it seems are decent people. Excluding the theving git a few posts above obviously.
