There was something I saw in the papers a few weeks ago about a large (totally harmless) fly which is becmming more common in the UK. Except now in Aberdeen.
If it were a hornet, and it doesn't look like one, don't kill 'em. Ever so often we get them falling down our chimney into the wood burner and just put them in a box and release them outside. Contrary to popular belief, hornets are no more or less dangerous than bees or wasps and are generally less aggressive.

Tell that to the hornets who hospitalised me. 19 stings off the little critters in 1985. I've been stung by a stack of wasps, and bees, and the hornets were far more aggressive, and the venom more potent. They wouldn't give up the fight even when I jumped in a river. If it were a hornet, and it doesn't look like one, don't kill 'em. also tell it to the bloke that removed the hornets nest from my FIL's place, who's usual buddy was in hospital after just a couple of stings.captainzep said:

kers. I cut ones head off the other day and it's body was still arched oved and "thrusting" - trying to sting anything in it's way.
