Ph chums,
Mother silverback, who has recently been operated on for cancer, following a blood test has been found to have 350 wotsits (unit of measure not sure which) of creatine in her kidneys when a 'normal' level of wotsits is about 3-5 I think (yes singular rather than in hundreds)

The doctor says it is rather serious but that's all I can get from my father who is being slightly evasive.

Is it a big problem? can creatine be re introduced? or is it a dialysis thing or are they properly fooked?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It indicates kidney failure. Not enough info to tell if its just temporary or not.

scratchchin Not good I think. Added to the fact that the doc indicated it was a 'serious' issue makes me wonder a bit.

Hi Mike,

Mrs BB has chronic renal failure, her Creatinine is about 400 at the mo but on a steady slide, at 33yrs old it's not the greatest!

Creatinine is the bad bits that your kidneys should filter out, its what comes out in your urine basically.

The fact your Mum has raised levels of Creatinine means some of her filters in her kidney(s) are either blocked or just failing. This allows the bad stuff back into the blood, poisoning her in effect.

Dialysis can be used, usually only when levels get way up around the 700-800 mark but it depends how rapidly its happening and how ill your mum is feeling. They may find if she is eventually going to need dialysis then they will do it sooner to give her better quality of life.

My wife is going to have a live donor transplant (from her Dad) next year.

Sorry to hear it but it doesn't mean its terminal or anything, just a bit of st to go through for your mum and the rest of the family.

Hope she's OK.
