This are valid for 10 years from date of issue and then have to be renewed because of the photo. However you need the paper counterpart to have a valid licence when you are hiring a car or need to earn your stripes from the speed guardians. I believe the counter part has some information not on the photocard but it's a pain to carry an A4 size piece of paper if you travel alot and need to hire a car. Can they not just put all the info on the photocard like they do in other countries or like in the passport.

There is a specific 'thing' on a paper part of the licence which cannot be put onto a card.

How do other countries manage with only a photocard licence? And what is the little something that cannot be put on card with all the technology available.

have always wondered about this, if you need to renew your licence just tell them you have moved house and need to change the adress on the licence as apparently this is cheaper than renewing the card and should give you another 10yrs, but i could be wrong!

I do believe the govt has publicly admitted the credit card license joke is an abysmal failure of planning, but I can't recall where I saw that.

Expect the national identity card to an equivalent fvckup failure.
