Hi, can anyone give me an answer to this question?

A good friend booked a holiday recently with one of the holiday companies that has recently gone bankrupt. She paid by Debit card (she does not like credit cards) from her high street bank account. Can she claim any sort of refund from the bank now? She is not pressing for this, and if the money has gone, then its gone and she is cool, but it would be useful to know if the banks offer the same insurance on the debit cards as they do on the credit cards.
She has tried phoning the bank several times but no one can give her a straight answer

Thanks in advance

Andy

Yes if it is a Visa Debit card, I've done it tweice before and they are very good, same protection as Visa credit card.

No if it is Maestro or Link I think, but I never use them

AFAIK, if it was booked through a debit card, then no come back. Unless it was ATOL protected?

If it was Visa debit, there is some kind of guarantee. If not, then she has no comeback except chasing up her debts with the creditors.

yes I have a Visa debit with Barclays and I think that is the only debit card you could possibly get your money back.
