I'm sure this is a repost as I can't be the only one thinking it, but I'm sick of turning on the fking news to see some miserable whining because they've having a bit of a delay getting home from their holiday.

I know it's easy to say, and I'd possibly be a bit pissed off if it happened to me, but in the grand scheme of things surely there are worse things in life than being stuck in Corfu airport for a day or so (I presume they can actually fk off around the island and aren't confined to the departure lounge)?

I don't know what's worse the whingers or the need of Sky, the BBC and everyone else to send out film crews to give them the airtime.

I totally agree...

All the complainers I have heard on the radio appear to be chavved up muppets....Their package stay inside the resort has ended, so dont have the intelligence to go for a wonder outside because there is no tour rep to tell them to..

If I was there I would be getting an update on whats going on, and then buggering off for a few days more sunshine.....Seems like a totaly legit way of having a few days extra off work!

The expectation that somebody else should pay for the bail-out is just another symptom of today's lack of personal responsibility. Not an attack on ABTA or ATOL or whatever those schemes are - if people reduce risk and book with protection from those schemes then fine, if not, tough titty.

Has really got on my tits too.

So someone is delayed getting home from hols ... or is at the airport and can't go. Well in most cases , those with cancelled hols will get their money back and those already there will finish them and get back home.

Hardly the same as the hardship that will be felt by those ex-XL employees out of a job now, or the many suppliers that will be out of pocket from unpaid invoices for work already completed.

The news had some silly woman at the airport the other day: "There's no-one to tell us where to go or what to do" had you thought of ASKING someone you stupid bint?! You're in a foreign country, your flight is cancelled, you have nowhere to stay, one would hope that somewhere in your genetic make-up there is something that will still urge you to look after yourself when you really have to. Well, today's the day love. Looks like you have been chosen to live out your days in a pile of your own excrement on foreign shores. rolleyes

Whatever happened to the empire? Going abroad for some is a frightful experience if they meet Johnny Foreigner who doesn't speak English, can't get a proper fy up or can't watch footy on the TV. Best stick to Clacton next year then eh?

Is this about fat bints who insist they can shoe horn themselves into a medium pair of lycra pants?

That's the odd thing, don't seem to have seen so many of those as middle to elderly aged women, respectable on the face of it, but who seem to turn into rancourous hissing spitters of venom aimed at whichever poor sod from the airport or local hotels, or whoever may have sod all to do with the problem but is unlucky enough to have to talk to them turns up.

It's not just being stuck at a foreign airport which defeats these people - There was some chap on News24 yesterday complaining about being not being able to get back to Manchester... he was at Gatwick.

I used XL last year to fly to the Caribbean, and now my aunt, uncle and cousin are there having flown out with them. It shouldn't be a problem, except that my cousin is expected back at work on a certain day, because they are staying at one of our cousins empty houses.

But I would imagine being kicked out of accomodation, and not knowing when you will get a flight home, would make pretty much anyone whinge.

If anything some of these people should be charged more as they have been given an adventure holiday on top of their package hotel deal thing for free.

Could it be that some of them are hoping that they will get a free holiday from a viewer who feels sorry for them?

Although they paid for a ticket home and the plane didn't arrive... I'd blame the directors of XL for negliglence, but I expect they were too busy stuffing money into their bank accounts to care.

Hardly worth winging about, I have had issues when going on holiday and managed to resolve them in less than a day and using some common sense.

There was one woman who was crying, she was still in ENGLAND FFS!

I see what you're saying but it's ABTA or ATOL or credit card or accept that if the company goes tits up you could be stranded without recompense, though you will probably be repatriated as most such lame ducks eventually are. Not their fault directly, until they whine excessively about it for compo reasons.

One of the complaints seems to be that the run on tickets caused the other airlines software to start putting the prices up, fine in theory as it means the airlines make money and don't have to keep an eye on all the events world wide so they don't miss an opportunity. However it is a bit st if you have spent all your holiday money slung a load on the credit card then find that the ticket home has shot up in price.

Tough yes but individuals should assess risk before parting with the cash if it's that significant to them. So tough titty also.
