Started at 7-30 in the park, with the winner from Maestro (Sue Perkins) conducting. Jolly good it was too!

Always found it a tad cringeworthy.
Nothing against the music or the sentiment, but have you seen the state of some of the sad f***ers in the audience?

But with a gazillion times more skill and talent than Leona Lewis...

I wonder why it makes you cringe - because society has made you feel uncomfortable at anything vaguely 'Empire' and traditional? That's the problem.

Who let Old Spice in anyay?

What? a few people who have had a few drinks, are enjoying themselves and the music and being patriotic.

I don't see any problem with any of that. I love watching the crowd interact with the orchestra/conductor and for one night of the year people remember and celebrate what it is to be British.

As I said, no problem with the talent of the performers.
But last time I looked we didn't have an Empire and looking at the audience makes me thinks it's little more than a w*nkfest for those who wish we still did.

Dale you miss the point of last night and the proms (to bring classical music to the masses).

If you can watch last night and not get a lump in your throat and want to grab a tommy gun and go over the top for queen and county perhaps you would be happier over at lentilheads.com

Went to one at Sudeley Castle a few years back. Got to say that i had a great time and would definately go again.

Not my usual music at all, but really enjoyed the orchestra and had a great evening out with a picnic and the Spitfire air display, which sent chills down my spine.

I live where they have one. We all go out of our houses to watch the Spitfire. Then lurk around the edges of the arena to enjoy the music and atmosphere. Brilliant.

Got to admit I saw tis, didn't intend to but happened to catch a bit flicking through the channels.

Fantastic, no fan of classical music or for that matter very patriotic, but this was great. It's inspiring and it made me wish I was there, it was a little piece of what made Britain great once upon a time and you can't help but contrast it to X factor etc.

I thought there were quite a few foreign flags too - I spotted Aussie, Poland, German, Dutch, US and Ireland.

Did anyone else spot the Catholic priest (or someone dressed up as one) in the front row of the promenaders waving a Vatican flag?
