In the real world employees and employers have certain rights and responsibilites. If, for example, an employee is found to have lied on their CV then this is deemed gross misconduct and they can be fired. Or, if someone lies while doing the job then this would (most probably, depending on the circumstances) be deemed miscondict and be subject to a written warning which would last for a given period. Equally, if someone becomes unpopular in the office an employer can't simply demote or fire them because they feel like it. In other words there are appropriate ways of dealing with things.

The above is what our political masters deem appropriate for their lowly subjects. Why is it then that an MP can get away with all sorts and never be called to account. As just one example, they promise an election on the single currency but later simply decide not to (read the small print they say). You couldn't get away with this behaviour in the real world. Equally, how is it that the PM can hire and fire Ministers (which effects their salary) at the drop of a hat, when in the real world such action would be interpreted as unfair, or even constructive dismissal, unless the appropriate warnings had been issued.

I'm of the view that the Government should be required to run the country with the same "checks & balances" and "accountability" that they require business to do. I remember hearing an MP stating that "it's a precarious job because every 4 or 5 years there's a good chance you could lose it". My initial recation was "blimey, most people would be grateful to have a 5 year contract being as the norm is about 1 month".

I see where you are coming from, but I've worked with enough dead wood in my life that putting an under performing minister on performance review for six months would not help the situation at all.

Some pigs are more equal than others.

I've also met exceedingly sexist and racist judges, and witnessed a court discriminating.
