Discussion
Please watch this, i think it is disgusting the way that these people are being treated, they have served the UK and they deserve our full support now.

According to my Dad (in his late 70's now) a tremendously brave outfit that would do all the really dangerous stuff that we would shirk if we had an option. Because of this, they suffered high losses, but no doubt saved a huge amount of lives with their wily and brave action.
Useless info time, they march at an incredible rate on parade - almost running.
Great guys, should be recognised for what they did as our allies in the wars of the last century.

Having seen groups of Gurkhas and young brit squaddies in the same place at the same time I can see how much of a credit to the country they are.
While not knocking the job they do, some Brit squaddies behave like total pricks when out in public. The gurkhas are always well turned out, well mannered and well behaved, they seem to see serving this country as an honour and lay down their lives for an ungrateful employer.

I live in North Yorkshire and regularly drive through Catterick Garrison. The Gurkhas are always immaculately turned out, even when shopping in Tesco. As you say, a credit to themselves and their country. While not knocking the job they do, some Brit squaddies behave like total pricks when out in public. I guess this is an example, specifically, of where the difference between cultures is the very thing that allows a group to survive and serve Britain.
If the gurkhas and their wives came to the UK, I bet we would not be asking them to 'become more British', or for their wives, who wear scarves, to 'dress like free women, not slaves' etc etc
On this occasion, the very thing that sets them apart- the highly honour focussed tradition, the fearless approach to anything, that has allowed them to serve Britain well.
Multiculturalism may have some very naive and significant faults, but I suppose there is just cause for celebrating difference of culture, under the umbrella of being subjects of this country. It may be true that every subgroup needs to search itself to find out what it can/does contribute, and what strengths unique to their particular culture may be of use to serve the country and adapt to a new environment without feeling belittled or denigrated.
This is qulaified by the fact that Gurkhas have good 'class', good 'form'. This is not monopolosed by any culture. If everyone including white asian etc took a leaf from their book and gained/built on this, they would all use their differences to make this country great, and their similarity would be in the basic fact that they mean well and act well.

I would rather we had towns filled with ex gurkha soldiers and their families being supported by this country and my taxes than the ungrateful chav scum that fill some of our streets.
+1 right thereGrandad fought with these guys in Burma and had nothing but respect and admiration for their bravery and selflessness.
I wish the scum of this country had 1% of the self respect and honour these guys have.
I feel very strongly about this subject, the Gurkhas have fought for this country for nearly 200 years, they deserve our respect and the same benefits as our ex servicemen. For anyone who believes these guys deserve the same rights as our forces there's a petition.

there are actually several petitions, and it's unlikely to have any effect but we have to try!

The nearest thing they get to equality is the right to be treated shamefully.
It’s a damming indictment of this government that ALL service personnel today are treated shamefully.
We would be better off electing a few old Ghurkha’s and deporting a few politicians.
Personally, I would like to see every school issued with a few Ghurkha’s and them given a free hand to teach morals and discipline. Then we might begin to stand this country up again.

I have never understood how or why the government abandons the Ghurkas and the Iraqui translators. They let every Tom, Dick and Harry into this country without hardly a question, so where is their logic for denying them citizenship? I would say that they would even go up a few notches on the popularity front as I think that most people would like to see them enter.
I just don't get it. But that's another story.
