Right, I'd just like some advice from the PH lot on this one, as he's not quite sure what to do.

He currently owns a house, on a 50% ownership scheme with the government. (Homebuyers scheme I think it's called)

His OH has now decided that she doesn't want to be with him, and does not want to sell the house. What can he do about this? (Sorry, I'm probably being stupid here).

Also, has anyone had experience with this government scheme? I understand that it's not quite the same as just selling a normal house, and that he will most likely lose all of the deposit on the house (£40k!)

Onto his ex-OH... Well, she had been in TWO new relationships before 2 weeks was even out, so it was obviously planned. She now wants the 2nd bloke to stay over in the house that he has paid for (although she has looked after the kids, she has brought nothing into the house). What do you think he should do about that? I reckon a swift punch to the under-carriage is in order! hehe

What about selling the house? Can he not do that if she doesn't agree? I mean, people split up all the time, and it's normally the case that one person takes the current place on, or both people move on. Surely they can't be expected to stay together?

Oh right. That seems a bit odd. Surely if they sell, she would be re-housed, you know, in one of those houses that we all pay for, and live off benefits that, you know, we all pay for? He is understandably in pain, but feels there is nothing he can do.

Is it really a case of:

He has to keep paying for the house indefinitely, even though they have broken up
She is allowed to bring over whoever she wants, when she wants, etc
He can never release the money he has tied up in the house, in order to move on with his life

Hmmm, seems he is in a worse position than I thought he would be.

Just seems unfair when she has broken things off, and gone straight into a planned relationship, and she looks after the kids all day while he works overtime to pay for everything.

That's definitely true!

He's going to have to stay, as he can't afford that house AND another place for himself!

If he is paying for everything then why can't he kick her out, keep the kids + house and make her pay for child support?

No, that's a pretty accurate view Tonk, mate.

So, now that we know that he's pretty buggered in that dept... What can we do to really annoy her? (Apart from bringing st loads of sgs back to his! - Not me of course...)
