This lunchtime whilst out and about in London, I was accosted by a Green Meanie (well actually she was quite friendly) from Friends of the Earth. I have never met someone so ignorant of the natural world of which she was supposed to be a friend. She thought water came from under the earth, I had to explain that it's driven off the seas by the sun, and flies around the earth as clouds before falling as rain. I then had to explain that tidal waves were not caused by global warming, but infact by movements of tectonic plates, she really didn't get this one. Lastly she had never heard of Krakatoa....

Is it me or is even the quality of the green meanies declining these days ? It's less fun when the adversaries handicap themselves.

Tidal waves are caused by the errr... tide.

Tsunamis are caused by tectonic activity.

Tidal waves are caused by the moon and sun's gravitational forces.

Greens generally aren't bothered about scientific fact or reasoned debate, they just want to cause trouble and shout down anyone who disagrees with them...

Well shows how much you know:

Have you not heard of wells? You dig down and you find water. That’s where all the water comes from. If it came from the sea then the rain would be salty!

Tidal waves are definitely caused by global warming. Did you not see the big waves on “An Inconvenient Truth”?

Krakatoa was also caused by global warming, because apparently after the eruption they measured significant levels of CO2 in the air.

You sir, need to understand real science.

Not convinced. Tidal wave in common usage just referred to any big wave hitting the coast. Possibly because a big wave causes tide like effects. You get storm tides and hurricane tides as well, nothing to do with solar or lunar effects.

Nice face (better if she lost the lip and nose rings), but a bit lacking topside for my tastes. smile
