There are some strange people about these days. I have just driven down to the local shops and on the way there I have to go through a section where people park down one side of the road. There's not quite enough room then for cars to pass each other, so the general rule is that we wait and go single file, albeit allowing for the fact that the "obstruction" (the parked cars) are on the other side of the road, so strictly speaking the cars coming on that side should give way first.
There is a long line of sight, so its very rare that two cars meet in the middle of the road.
Anyhoo, today I'm on my way through this bit and a well dressed middle aged woman in a Toyota somethingorother is coming towards me. I reach the single lane section first (by about 5 seconds) and the obstruction is on her side so I proceed through. Then I notice that madam had entered the section too. and is coming sraight for me, on my side of the road at a rate of knots! I slow, she doesn't I stop opposite the only available gap in the parked cars, although its not really a proper gap and certainly not big enough for her to pull into fully, and wait. At the last moment she skids to a halt and stares at me venomously. I smile sweetly and invite her to reverse with a friendly (not rude) hand gesture There is now a car behind me. And she just sits there. Then she starts to nudge forward! yikes I wind the window down and say " You'll have to back up, there isn't enough room" To which I am treated to a volley of expletives. And so she sits shouting and swearing at me. There are now 3 cars behind me, and nothing behind her. I again suggest she backs up, and point out that I/we have right of way. This sends her into overdrive. I honestly thought she was going to have a seizure! Eventually she slams her car into gear and reverses up the road at high speed, before pulling in to the side (backwards. As I go past her she is spitting at me! Sadly her window was closed............ hehe She'd also managed to reverse into a lamp post. Extraordinary. And to think, she's allowed on public roads..

PMT? Reminds me of a similar incident I had a while ago with a bus.

Same situation, line of cars on one side forcing one lane of traffic into the other, starting at a junction. So I turn into the road and see it is clear, so I continue down on the other side of the road. Where the line of cars end is at the crest of a hill and when I'm over halfway past the cars a bus appears....and steams ahead into the same lane as me. He had clearly seen me and could have stopped, I know this because we meet when I am literally one car length away from the end of the row of parked cars.

The tt then sits there and expects me to reverse a good 100 yards to allow him to pass me, when all he has to do is reverse 6 feet. I make the gestures to back up and simply repeats them back at me, which I find amusing. It's amusing because I'm in no hurry just pottering around in my S2000, and he's driving a bus.

He's being such a that I decide not to back down, and decide this is a perfect opportunity to tidy up my CD drawer. So I put the handbrake on and start organising my colleciton alphabetically. He sees this and is clearly agitated, talking to himself and thumping the steering wheel.

Cars start to appear behind both of us and after 5 minutes or so a few people get out to see what's going on. Due to the traffic it's now impossible for either of us to move, but it's clear to everyone he's being the tt due to the fact that he only had to reverse a small distance.

After about 10 minutes the car on the end of the row of parked cars was moved, allowing me to pass him with a smile and blown kiss. smile

I used to think this was a time of the month phenomenon, but these days it seems all too easy to trip the ladies into an apoplectic fit of howling expletives.

The younger they are, the worse they are....

I learned a few new words the other day when I gave a little pip to ask one to move forwards a bit...

Turn a lovley shade of purple, they do...

Bint Baiting...might be able to turn this into an Olympic event..hehe

I had a very similar incident with a woman in a 4x4. I just sat there and waited until she realised I would've happily sat there all morning. I lit a cigarette and reclined the seat a bit.

If you're contemplating this as a participation sport, remember....

Some of them can't reverse...

This intensifies the excitement level...

And there is an excitement limit, above which their heads explode...

Its not just women in 4x4's. I had the same happen to me, cars parked on one side of the road my right of way so i drive past, get half way and a guy in a lorry starts driving at me. We end up both sat there refusing to move even though he has hardly any distance to reverse to let me though. In the end I had to pull up on the pavement to let him passed.

It really is amazing how people getr so aggressive when protected by their cars. Get out of the car and then see what she does.

A mate had a similar experience. He's driving a 40ft 38ton artic down a hill through a village with narrow roads. Meet a woman in a small hatchback. He stop, she stops. She shouts that he should back up. He replied that it was impossible to back the lorry up the hill. She gets out and shouts and swears. He wound his window up and decided to read his paper until she moves. Cue more swearing. Then she gets back in her car and with max revs reverses into a brick wall. He calmly folds paper and weaves his thanks as he pass.

Call the police and report the viscious assault. Did you get the reg?

I had the exact same situation many moons ago and I sat and waved her back, but instead of expletives I got a look of horror, and watching her reverse and career onto the pavement, it was pretty clear she couldn't drive her 4*4 to save her life.

But as someone above said, a Woman driving a 4*4, what did you expect? I bet it was a BMW X5....biggrin

You want to try steering a lorry round the highways and by-ways of our land, especially at school-dropping-off time.

The aforementioned 4x4 Mums either freeze with fear, being confronted by a large load (wink), or try to do you a favour by moving to the narrowest part of the road to "let you past".

Talking about strange.

You should have seen the chap at work today write on an A4 piece of paper and then screw it up and shove it in his mouth (like an apple, and then have bits hanging out of the corners) and chew it over the next hour. hurl

You got that job in Broadmoor then, that's going to be the tamest thing EVER.
