Is it possible to repair a medium sized rip in a Leather Sofa?

Where or how would I go about that?

Imagine if you put your boot heel through size wise. A tear with rough edges.

Any suggestions? Oh... it is on the seat not the body... so on a 'cushion' that your plant yourself on!
the story behind that rip could be very interesting indeed wink

You can't repair a tear like that.

Your only option would be to replace the whole piece of leather on that seat cushion.

ok - serious/sensible hat on for a bit smile

it is possible to cut a piece of leather off of the back of the couch and use that. the colour will be perfect and the seams will be at the edge of the cushion, so no join line.

of course it means a patched area behind your couch.

we did this once and it worked very well (although our worn out patch was on the arm rest).

There are companies out there that specialise is this sort of repair, I work opposite Land of Leathers warehouse and often see a little van parked up which says on it "specilists in invisible repairs to leather sofas" I can only assume that they call them in to patch up any blemishes on the new sofas, but as with all things really handy, I made a mental note at the time I saw it, thinking "that's handy if I ever damage my leather sofa" and have promptly forgotten what they were called hehe not much use really am i wink

Do you think stitching a 'new' panel on is a Sewing Machine job or should I take it to a Specialist?!
Sorry to say, specialist.

Your plan is a good one, but I would fear that there isn't that much leather to play around with and hence you will probably only get one bite at the cherry, so to speak. I don't know how much of a dab hand your missis is with a sewing machine, but I'd suspect it is a job for an expert.

Do you not have accidental damage cover on your insurance? It IS a specialist job, you could try your local (not DFS/SCS/CSL) leather furniture retailer, they will be able to help.

These guys can handle small tears and marks but if you have something like a boot going through the leather, in a prominent place on the sofa, there's little they can do without you being able to see it afterwards
