Just back from my two week road trip over in the states. The first thing I've noticed since I was last there in 2001 is the state of affairs that their news programming is now in. Its little more than 2 stories presented as entertainment.

For example there was no mention of the US Govt bail out of their mortgage lenders, nothing to mention about the rest of the world. Instead you get a little ticker tape of world events whilst the entire broadcasts are dedicated to either the presidential farce or the weather. The place is so insular it is dangerous.

Whilst watching the daily comedy/news I found a show given to a woman called Nancy Grace. This woman should not be given the air time that she gets. The way she uses it to portray her opinion as news is dangerous and from what I can gather certainly damaging to the Casey Anthony case.

The program is just set out on speculation following speculation in which the chance of a fair trial are completely being drowned out. Despite getting expert advice which could argue against any of the evidence being "disclosed" to her show, she only listens to the side that matches her opinion. Its shocking to see such unbiased reporting on a show that reaches millions around the USA.

To prove a point, in a bid to yet further rubbish the accused mother (who has not been charged with murder) character, they were showing photo after photo of the woman kissing and flirting with another woman, like that actually builds a case. Someone in the states needs to remove this vacuous woman's mouthpiece from the air waves.

But still infinitely better than BBC Worldwide. I've been stuck in hotel rooms many times across Asia and I'll take CNN anyday over that awful, awful BBC.

The BBCs attempt at news coverage in the US is just dreadful. Regardless of how bad the BBC are in the UK, you thought they could put on a decent news show in the US, but no. Its even worse.

CNN is quite appalling. We were watching coverage of Gustav in Prague last weekend and it was just diabolical. Thank god CNN don't run FEMA quite frankly. After about 10 minutes of watching it, and we do have a reason to watch Gulf hurricane activity, I had to turn the tv over before MsT threw something at it.

Given a choice of BBC News America or CNN, I chose Futurama on Comedy Channel every time.

You could watch Fox News instead........

Futurama it is (certainly more realistic).

BBC World news is fine. I watched it when I was over in Budapest earlier this year and it was OK. A little boring and repetitive, but fine nontheless.

I get BBC, CNN, Bloomberg and CNBC in my apartment.

I don't watch the news much, lets put it that way...

(In fact, that's a lie, I watch the local Cantonese news because it's more interesting...

I must admit, the irony of a British person moaning about the quality of news in another country is somewhat overwhelming.

Saw her in TV when in the US earlier this year and the news that some of the 450ish kids who were liberated from the Texas Polygamist sect ranch had historical bone fractures.

She kept saying over and over (you need to listen to the YouTube video to get the accent) "41 BROKEN BONES". It was as if she was trying to embed some message.

Then they had a peadatrican on who made the point that 41 fractures on 450 kids ages 0-16 was entirely average, and the fact that they worked on a farm, rode horses etc made the number look a bit low. She just brushed him aside and cut him off!!
