Just been watching Speed on "DAVE". Amazingly americans have been nicking stuff from us since the 1940's and claiming it as their own.

Americans asked the uk to supply all info they had in regards to breaking the sound barrier in planes and agreed to give us brits all they had. They then turned round after we gave them the info and said due to national security they could not give us what info they had.

Then went on to use what we gave them to build the first plane to achieve supersonic flight and effectively claim it as their own.
Surprisingly wiki is aware of all this thankfully.

Is there ANYTHING the americans wont claim to have invented, captured (enigma machine) etc...

Best one I ever heard was from a bloke (admittedly in a bar, yep, Hooters) in LA.
Falkland Islands......He seriously believed the US won them back from the Argies then "gave" them back to the UK.

Depends do you believe that the americans captured the enigma machine, won both world wars and were the first people to achieve supersonic flight to name just a few things?

Eh? Have you considered all the stuff that the Chinese and/or Indians will lay claim to? It's damn near everything! They (almost) make the "Merkins" look modest!

Don't let a few stty Hollywood movies cloud your judgement. There must be a couple of decent ones! hehe

There is, of course, the small matter that without intervention from USA so-called "Great Britain" would be either,

A. German, or
B. Soviet

But apart from that......

The biggest one i guess is the Wright brothers, that has gone down as the first heavier than air powered flight. Not true.

Please do study your unabridged history. Although the American intervention did speed up the victory by the time the japanese dragged them into the war we stopped the germans an L elalamein while the russians stopped the germans at stalingrad.Hence preventing Hitler from reaching the oil fields in both directions.

Consequently leaving germany in need for resources to carry out the war effort whilst we still ruled the waves and had a whole empire to gain our resources from.
Obviously it would have only been a matter of time for Germany to capitulate or negotiate due to lack of resources the russian attacks and british constant bombardment on their factories etc.

People died in all armies and obviously I am gratefull for all the American soldiers who came and gave their lives and have utmost respect for them. The Americans should just stop pretending they won the war on their own and stop brainwashing others in the world with your historically inaccurate films.

It is the American attitude of we have won it all and invented it all which really gets a little tiring.

I know quite a few Americans and as usual we have to paint them all the same as your stereo type. Yes there are some who do not know history, but equally there are some who do and appreciate the British for what they have given the world.
As a nation we are very good at inventing things but lousy at making them for ourselves. The Jet engine was the equivalant to the computer of its day and yet Frank Whittle was little known and had to work against the system. Supersonic flight was first done by the Americans with the aid of the information gained from IIRC correctly Dehavilan, but the british team as usual were a bunch of under funded guys in a shed, I doubt that even if the Americans had shared everything they still would have beaten us to the sound barrier due to our shocking lack of funding correctly.
The list is endless of inventions that it has taken other countries to develop that were british.

"Scumbag Americans" is hardly a fair thing to say, but beneath the needless insult is some truth.

The rise of the US as a superpower after WWII and its domination of the world economy was largely driven on the back of invention and knowledge taken or extracted from others.

The British invented , to all intents and purposes, the technology for the mass transit of large numbers of people in jet aircraft with the creation of the Comet. The UK government of the time handed everything over for free as a thank you for the kit provided to the UK in the war effort. The Boeing 707 was born, and with it the arrival of widescale international jet travel. The rest is history.

And of course there is all the German technology swiftly snaffled out to the US as well.

In the big scheme of human history, I sense we are moving to a new chapter now. The shift of power to the East has started and it is not going to stop.

In the wake of the credit crunch, China, Singapore, Dubai and others now own large chunks of the US banks that hold up the entire US economy. These people are playing a long game and eventually, even in our lifetimes, these nations to the East are going to be ones in charge.

If a country came up with several groundbreaking inventions which were limited by the idiotic government, close minded population and general laziness, would you not do the same? to this day, we still move into newbuild homes next to racetracks, automotive headquarters and airports which have been there for a century and complain about noise, leading to limits and preventing any innovation.

Put it this way, you wouldn't have been able to watch the channel at all were it not for the US space program, what's that? We could? The greatest British innovation of the last 5 decades is the bagless vacuum system, leading to advanced hand dryers in the gents' bogs, scumbags indeed; It is entirely our own fault that the US is far beyond us, how about congratulating the American people for having the balls to develop and lead on the innovations of the last 5 decades, as opposed to sit back and pour scourn on others?

Sorry Jimmy,

I am afraid it's you who have to brush up on your history.

The Japanese "dragged" America into the war in early December 1941

"Stalingrad" was in the harsh winter of 1942

The El Alamein campaign was in October/November 1942.

We would still have been fighting the Germans now if it wasn't for the intervention of our American friends......

Examples...

Lend- lease 1940 onwards...

Aircraft production 1941-1945

Deliveries of Spitfires to Malta on American carriers

American tanks in the Battle of the bulge...1944

USAF daylight bomber raids on German armament factories.

The introduction of the Mustang with long range fuel tanks escorting bombers deep into the Reich.

The list is endless

So you're grateful for the Americans losing more lives than us, despite living 4000 miles away, supplying us with 70% of our supplies despite massive U Boat losses and undeniably ending the war with Japan, who then gave back hundreds of our boys with missing fingernails, foreskins and eyelids? Yet you dare start a thread titled "Scumbag Americans!!!", if you have a grudge against a country, don't put it in the motor related forum, in fact if you have such simple opinions, I can only suggest that you jot them all down on some A4 and shove them up your arse.
