I've got a wart on my thumb and it's a bloody stubborn thing to get rid of.

I've tried acid (from the pharmacy of course), freezing it with a home freeze kit (Wartner), but the bloody thing is still there. I'm back on the acid again tonight to see if that'll work....

Apart from being an eyesore, my biggest worry is how infectious it is. I keep it wrapped up in a plaster day and night which can't be good for me, so I'm wondering if it's OK to keep it in the open without infecting any other areas, people, etc...???

Any ideas?

I've had it for about 6 now. I didn't know what it was at first until I saw the black dot so I tried the freeze treatment....

I'd imagine your friendly neighbourhood quack will have access to something stronger...

Rub potato peeling on wart, then bury the peel in the corner of your garden.

According to my mate Jimmy's dad, an Italian, this works.

Had a massive verruca on my right little toe for the past 2 years, became a large black thing that made it painful to walk, as it slipped under my fourth toe and was pushed down everytime I walked.

I saw the doc' about 6 times and each time he just said "Oh just keep at it" (soaking, drying, scrubbing with an emry board and painting with some wierd stuff).

In the end I get fed up or them refusing to freeze it off as the scrubbing was just painful and not working. I got a home freezing kit from ASDA for £5 - 4 weeks later and it's just rough skin now; final freeze next Thursday should kill it off for good. The little ste.

Pretend you are a hungry rat and gnaw it off.

a) you'll have a nice healthy snack
b) You'll get rid of it

I had one on a finger that bothered me for about a year or so. I tried the stuff from the chemists, but nothing would shift it. I got some supposedly stronger acid from the GP, but that didn't really help. I got that frustrated that I used a knife to cut the thing out. This left a hole about 3 or 4mm deep in the pad of my finger and it bled like crazy. Looked pretty rank too. It came back though. So the next time I cut it out again, waited a couple of days for the hole to start healing over and then used the acid on that. It would burn like hell, but I stuck with it for about a week until all of the surrounding skin was white as snow, deep down, not just on the surface. Then I took one of those things women use for rough skin on their feet and just sanded away all of the skin anywhere near the hole and kept going until it started bleeding. Then I bandaged it up and a couple of weeks later it was perfectly healed with no wart. Been gone for over a year now.

I had some on my hand once, I was visiting a private dermatologist for another reason and he saw them and said he'd get rid of them for me. Came back with a tube of liquid nitrogen with a spray gun on it and froze them all. Stung a bit but they were gone in a week or so.

Warts detest sarcasm.

But ensure all your family/friends are equally sarcastic or the warts will jump onto them instead.
