Is anyone here familiar enough with Hong Kong to know where the best place to buy a cheap laptop (that would work in the UK) is? I just need a cheap one as a backup when we're both wanting to surf at the same time, so don't want to spend too much. OH is going to HK soon, thought it might be a good opportunity....

Wan chai computer centre is pretty good, if not amazingly crowded. Prices are good, you can try and haggle, and the power supply is the same as the UK.

Let me know if you need more information.

With exchange rate not cheap any more.

If you go to Times square on 2nd to top floor is full of electrical shops.

Try Nathan road. (Sea end not China end) Loads of shopes selling electricals. You can do 10 in a row and ask best price and paly them off against each other.

All come with UK power supply and instructions.

These days better getting a deal in UK though.

If all you want is a cheap second laptop for surfing why not pick up a second-hand refurb on Ebay? I paid about £90 for a Thinkpad X30, and whilst it's a bit limited for heavy-duty work, only a P3M etc, it is fine for surfing and very small. Even came with a new battery pack.

Tom, that was my backup plan! It looks like the HK idea may not prove to be so cheap by the sound of it, so eBay looks like a good idea...

Thanks for all the replies by the way. smile

I had to buy a replacement lappy whilst working in China about 2 years ago. HK prices were not all that compared to what you can get in the UK.

Were abouts did u buy it from ?

A lot of touristy areas have stupid prices (Island mostly, TST, Mongkok). I have bought an Acer laptop myself for about half the price of the equivalent in the UK.
