Any mates/family close to Dover?

Bought gallons of the stuff in France for my wedding. Cheap as you like.

A chum who is a wine merchant supplied the wine for our wedding.

When it came to champagne, he did some digging and came back to us to let us know Majestic were punting it to the public for less than he could source it in the trade.

'95 Vintage Mumm Cordon Rouge.

Dont under estimate the amount you will need!

I deal with weddings fairly often so have seen people go thirsty because the bride and groom were explicit that they only needed 1 case laugh

How many guests do you have? Is it for the toast or just upon arrival?

I would recommend just using some cheaper sparkling wine (after all thats all champers is!) for arrival and then use some Veuve for the toast smile

Not sure if it has to be the UK you source it from but, depending on how far away you are from Dover i would slip over to Calais for a day trip (we are in Northest Suffolk and can easy do lunch about 30 miles from Calais port, shopping and still be home within 18 hours).

Majestic are selling Pol Roger for £20 a bottle atm (normally £40+).

You can get cheaper stuff from them as well for silly money compared to what you pay here.

Will people actually see the bottles?

90% of people (probably more) cannot tell the difference between a £25-£30 bottle of Moet and well chosen £5 (or less) bottle of Methode Champenoise. Even less so after a few glasses. Particularly as you're aditionally paying for 'label' with Moet.

Let me make a discreet enquiry and see if I get my head ripped off for asking. If not then yes I know of 70 odd bottles of very good stuff in storage. Will let you know. smile

yes

Every one knows the only acceptable ways of ruining a perfectly good bottle of champagne is to mix it with a VSOP or XO cognac or crème de cassis.

Had Laurent Perrier at my wedding. That was the best part of the day.

Best bet is to phone round local offie's and see what deals they are doing or else head abroad.
