Fasting - nutritional advice please
Discussion
Today is the first day of Ramadan, the month-long period of abstaining from food and drink (amongst other things) from dawn until dusk each day.
The period from sunrise to sunset today is around 15 hours and as Ramadan moves closer to the summer each year (the Muslim calendar has 11 days fewer than the Gregorian one), the fasts will be getting even more challenging.
Could the experts amongst you please provide any nutritional advice to help ease the slowdown I will no doubt suffer during parts of the day. At the moment, all I can stomach at 4am is a glass of semi-skimmed milk and a few biscuits.
Many thanks.

Just to help you feel a little bit better Amir Khan the boxer will also be fasting at the moment and he has a commonwealth title fight on Saturday. How he can manage to do all the training required for boxing without being able to eat during the day is beyond me, and probably not very healthy.
You have to think he could have scheduled the fight a bit better though, it's not as though he didn't know in advance when ramadan was going to be

You need to convert to Judaism, they only fast for one day per year. The period from sunrise to sunset today is around 15 hours and as Ramadan moves closer to the summer each year (the Muslim calendar has 11 days fewer than the Gregorian one), the fasts will be getting even more challenging.

I googled it and all it said was "There are very few rules when it comes to fasting. What you do is really between you and the Lord."
I don't know how anyone can do this fasting business.
Doesn't matter what I ate in the morning - porridge, full english brekky, loaf of toast etc...I would still be ravenous by noon and be ready to kill somebody by 3pm if went un-fed.
It's not natural.
Christ (or Allah) knows how the hell Kahn is training to fight without eating all day? Suppose he must really pack it in at night time and adjust his sleep patterns maybe?

When Ramadan reaches the height of summer practicing Muslims will have to get up in the middle of the night to drink and eat.
Or move closer to the equator.
Or simply rely on Allah being merciful.
I wonder if any Muslims live inside the Arctic Circle?
Tricky.
I have a mate who lives in Findland, he always says i should move there when ramadan is in the winter as they only get a few hours of sunlight.Or move closer to the equator.
